Fourth Line Grind

Inline Tape Jobs

Recommended Posts

For me, I use a composite blade and don't like the puck hitting the bare blade. I tape my stick just like I would for ice, but I then cut

off the very bottom portion of the tape. This keeps it from sticking to or marking up the tiles while giving me a full blade's worth

of tape. It really doesn't take very long after you get the hang of it.

One horizontal strip on front and back where the puck is contacting the blade, secured by two wraps of tape a half inch from the toe. Looks clean and gets the job done.

One strip along the top, going around the toe for extra blade protection. Then I do horizontal strips along the blade, leaving the botton free. Followed up with a wrap along the heel to keep the tape down. Pics to follow when I go home.

I usually don't like the bottom of my blade rubbing against anything, ice, tile, whatever, so I just give it the deluxe treatment with a quarter strip on bottom and toe to help the tape last longer, followed by the double layer wrap all the way down to the toe.

I tape it my stick normally the whole way up and cover the toe. Just before I play I rub the bottom on the ground a couple times.

I used to cover the whole blade too, and like everyone else has been saying, rub the bottom of the stick on the floor to remove the sticky. But since July, I've just been putting two strips of tape on the front and back sides of the blade.

I play on sportcourt and tape the blade as I would on ice, but to prevent the resistance and stickiness on the bottom of the blade, I just apply a little bit of paraffin wax to the bottom and works like a charm. You don't prematurely wear out your tape and, if you use black tape, prevent your rink from getting unnecessary black streaks on it.

Paraffin wax is the kind that's in blocks and can be bought at any grocery store. It's used for sealing jars and anything else that needs wax.

Waxing the tape seems to me to keep the friction down as well as helps the tape last longer. Recently I've tried using a strip of electrical tape along the bottom of the blade because the cloth tape seems to wear out too fast and rip. Just run a strip of electrical tape centered on the bottom of the blade then tape over it with cloth tape as normal. Work in some wax and melt it in and I'm good to go. Seems to be working well for me on sport court so far.

i have been testing out the erik cole method for taping your stick (a link to see this can be found on the site),and it seems to be working really good my only worry has been the wear of the bottom of the blade but after 4 games the tape is fine and the bottom of the blade is ok

Put a strip of tape on the bottom....

Well considering the friction caused by tape on the bottom of your blade is negligible, and he is worried about the bottom of his blade wearing down, I thought it may be a good idea to suggest.

On ICE the difference is negligible.. on sport court or tile, it is a different story. A lot more friction.

By only using the tap horizontal along the blade will the blade of your stick wear out faster on sportcourt, or not so much?

Blade wear on sportcourt is pretty much negligible. Personally I tape my blade like normal and take a few shots in my garage (which removes all the tape on the bottom of the blade) and I'm good to go.
