Easton vs Graf

Recommended Posts

I searched for this but couldn't find anything. If there is a post for it, please direct me.

I am skating in an Easton C12, which is a SMU for Source for Sports here in Canada. I think it is similar to the 1200C. I recently purchased a pair of Graf Supra G35s as my Eastons were showing signs of wear and I got the Grafs at a great price.

When I went to skate on the Grafs, I could hardly move and it was as if I was learning to skate again. I have had Grafs before, 703's and 709's, and both times I came from Bauers and experienced no problems changing over. Are Eastons and Grafs at opposite ends with regards to pitch and boot design??? The Grafs feel fine when I wear them around the house but not when I get on the ice. I even had them rockered and still had the same issues.

All the posts I read were about the difference between Cobra holders and Tuuks, so if anyone has info on Cobras vs Easton holders, or Easton vs Graf in general I would appreciate it.

I went from CCM vectors to Graf 709's and the first time out on the Graf's felt really strange. The pitch was more noticeable than I thought it would be but now I love it. By the 2nd or 3rd time out on the Grafs, they felt fine. The pitch of the skate made me more aware of my stance and I started bending more at the knees. My balance and stride benefited greatly from the Graf's.

In my opinion and experience the Graf Cobra's are pitched a smidgen more than the Razors. They both have a heavy lean foward. However, when skating on the Cobras, I felt much more steel in my heel than the parabolic. Visually I would describe the Easton Steel to be more of a U shaped where as the Cobra Steel seemed more linear shaped like a ramp. I was going from Comp Z Airs to G35s then, I just gave up with the Cobras and mounted the Razor holders on the G35s... Much better

Grafs have a very forward, agressive lean to them so you skate on the balls of your feet, In their opinon it gives a player better balance and agility on the ice. Eastons have a forward lean just slightly more than a CCM skate.. CCM have what is called a neutral profile which essentially means you are on a fairly straight level blade. Going from CCM to Grafs you get the feeling your skating on your toes. In my opinion yes it's great for agility but I question the balance isssue. I personally find the balance better on a CCM or Easton skate but that is probably personal preference.

I recently switched from Easton Synergy's to 703's, and it was not nearly the ordeal many here make it out to be. I think the little discomfort I felt was psychological from reading about how hard the switch would be.

It's not nearly as difficult to switch from an Easton skate to a Graf as it is to go from a Nike/Bauer to a Graf. With a Nike/Bauer you have a more on your heel profile and going to a Graf os almost traumatic because your going onto your toes. You're going from one extreme to another.

Easton 1200, Graf 703, 709 and G35 all fit very differently, are you sure the current skates are a good fit?

I was thinking the same thing.
