GSP vs. BJ Penn UFC Fight

Recommended Posts

GSP just annihilated BJ Penn... He passed BJ's non-existent guard all night long... Wow... I was expecting a pretty even fight.

GSP is so cut and fit and he even had a strategy to wrestle BJ in the beginning to draw blood to his arm... Crazy.

Going up in weight will always kill your conditioning. BJ looked gassed halfway through the 2nd! I think BJ is the best fighter at 155, but he wasn't fighting at 155. GSP was the better fighter in this match-up, no doubt.

Watching the post-fight interviews and even immediately following the fight, GSP showed how a true professional athlete should act. Sure, revel in the victory because you earned it, but don't kick an already defeated opponent (no pun intended) like some other athletes do. The classy move any athlete can make is to congratulate and THANK your opponent.

It was tough watching my favorite fighter lose so decisively, but I'm happy it was to a class-act like George St. Pierre.

Before the Lesnar-Coutoure fight...I hadn't watched any UFC since about #3 in the Royce Gracie era when fights had no time limits, weight classes and the only rules were no eye poking and no biting...everything else was legal.

I've been trying to learn a little about who's who in the UFC these days. That fight was damn impressive...GSP is awesome. And yes...total class act. I admire the guys that still bow as they enter the octagon and show the respect of the original disciplines (Karate/Judo etc...).

The Silva/Machida fight was good to.

I liked the Olé Olé Olé Olé chants with his crew after the win haha. I just want him to show up to a fight in his Habs jersey one day. What a dominating performance. I thought it would`ve been a "who gets the lucky punch in" kinda fight and I was honestly afraid of BJ Penn but wow, St-Pierre just showed why he's tied for Anderson Silva as the best pound for pound fighter.

yeah definatly was a great fight to watch. i thought the ref was gonna stop it a few times becuase BJ was just getting hammered on the ground but surprisingly he still was defending himself. Definatly a tough guy right there

Great between GSP and Penn, GSP dominated the entire fight. It was also a pretty good card as well a lot of entertaining fights, which all lasted three or more rounds except for the Machida and Silva fight.

Penn has always been questionable on his training regiment. St Pierre is a beast, dude works hard. Was hoping for Penn to take him out but I'm not surprised.

Penn field a complained because GSP had vasaline on his back, which would make sense when seeing how bj's legs kept sliding off of him. Its under investigation right now because apparently the athletic commision actualy saw them put vasaline on his back in between rounds and they stepped in and took the vasaline away from the camp. Dana even saw this and he is aware of it. On the other hand, GSP says after they took the vasaline away that they wiped down his back with a towel, so it really wouldnt have effected anything.

I hadto leave right after the fight so i didnt get to see the speech. What did GSP say his plan was?

Yeah you could tell GSP was in a lot better shape then Penn, he dominated every aspect of the fight and Penn was on his back every round.

GSP praised Penn in his post fight interview on how tough Penn was.

Penn was definitely one tough dude... If I was taking that kind of punishment from GSP, I would be knocked out by the end of 1st round. Penn stayed tough the whole fight.

He didn't last the whole fight, his corner called it after the fourth round.

Local boxers get a lot of attention here but GSP is just starting to get the recognition he deserves. It's a shame, really, because he's without a doubt one of our greatest athletes.
