My LS2P's are cracked

Recommended Posts

I recently bought some Supreme70's (Mid-September). I noticed last night that both of my holders have cracks in them, which a lot of you warned me about. Now I have to figure out what my best option is. I don't know if they are still under warranty (I doubt it) but if they are I suspect hockey giant will try and send me brand new skates, which I don't want. I have broken the boot in and don't want to have to do that again. Do I just cave and buy new holders for them and make sure to get good ones or should I try and get some kind of a replacement, if in fact they are still under warranty.

If I buy holders, what is the best place to get them from. Hockeygiant is low on the LS2's and I can't find anyone else that has them in stock. I would like to stay with the Tuuk's as I have heard good things about them.

Thanks all!!

I contacted Hockey Giant and they are looking into it, hopefully they don't replace them with the same crappy LS2P's, I don't want to keep going through this every few months!

I was on the phone with Bauer about LS2 cracked holder today. It is 1 year warranty, just need to bring our bill and skates to an authorized repair facility which happens to be a Play-It-Again that's 5 minutes away. Were in Ontario-imagine the US policy is similar.

The only problem.....I live in FL where hockey is not as popular and there aren't really any repair facilities around here. I would rather have them just send me the holders and I will pay to have them mounted somewhere.

I called hockeygiant and without any hesitation or confirmation of the crack, they contacted Nike/Bauer and they are directly shipping me a brand new set of Tuuk LS2's. How awesome is that!

I am sure that they will eventually but I think a lot of it depends on how hard you skate. My old skates were used so much and with my skating style (low center of gravity, long strides) my blades ended up crooked inside the holders because of my skating style. Pretty much the reason why I got new skates in the first place.

I stand corrected.....hockey giant just informed that they send out the LS2P's. Wonderful.......looks like I will be doing this again in 4-5 months.

When we get them in store we put on Custom+ or LS2 but thats dealing with the staff personally, speaking with a CSR over the phone with no physical store near you has it's disadvantages :(

My One90's after one year had 4 cracks in the right holder and 3 in the left. I never bothered doing a warranty on them as I didn't really notice the cracks until around the one year mark. Those Lexan holders are great for a short time, but a bad idea for the retail market. Zytel seems to be way less brittle and hold up much better.

Does anyone know about what it costs to have the old holders removed and new ones put on? I know it is different at different LHS's but just curious what people have spent since I will probably keep doing this if they keep sending me the same holders.

Like you said it will be different from one place to another but just to swap them it shouldn't cost too much. Just to give you a rough idea, I had a cracked Custom + last month and had it replaced at my LHS and told them to swap the steel so I had my existing steel in the new holder, they charged $25 for the holder and $5 labor, so I'd guess if I were just getting a pair of holders swapped they'd charge me maybe $10 (I'd say a max of $20 would be a fair price though).

Lets see here, 24 regular rivets and 4 copper rivets.... Your probably looking at anywhere between $20-$40 depending where you go. Thats a 5 minute job for me so more then likely we'd charge $25.

To get LS2s put on my Grafs and have the Cobra 5000's replaced ran me $140.

Something like $100 for the holders and steel, and the rest for rivets and labor.

National Sports told me that I only had to pay cost of the holder (labour was free)

Hockey Experts wanted $80 to swap my existing roller chassis onto an ice boot (they were charging $1 per rivet + labour)

Sportchek wanted $15 per skate in labour ($30 labour per pair, all rivets included)

Funny, cause they're all owned by the same company.
