Best Trade NOT Made

Recommended Posts

Watching highlights and seeing Marleau with his 29th tonight...Last year he was a LOCK in most peoples mind to be traded. But, he wasn't and is having a great year this year.

In your mind...what's the best rumored trade that never happened...or the player that after deadline day hadnt' been moved that you went 'Huh?'

For the Flyers; Richards not going to the Leafs.

I guess I wasn't as plugged in to hockey when this rumor was around. I'm guessing something involving Kaberle?

I remember hearing a trade that was agreed upon between the Leafs and Bruins involving Kaberle. It was a unsigned draft pick ( can't remember the name) and a minor leaguer for Kaberle. The story I heard was the fax machine on someones end didn't work and the league office didn't get the paper work in time. Good for the Leafs and bad for the Bruins.

I was under the impression that it was always Carter going in a deal like that, as I couldn't ever recall a possibility of Richards being traded. Either way, not trading Carter was just as good a decision.

How about the Red Wings shopping Steve Yzerman in th emid 90s. Apparently there were three or four potential deals, the most serious being a package from Ottawa including Alexei Yashin. Whether they were legitimate offers, or just ways to motivate Yzerman, as Scotty Bowman, Jim Devellano, Ken Holland all now claim, Im just glad it didn't happen.

I thought it was Carter that was rumoured to go there

I had heard Carter and a 1st.

My bad, still a great trade not made.

How about back in the days when Lindros was dominant and was with Philly, he was in a big war with the Philly management, and wanted out and would only accept a trade to his hometown Leafs. I remember the deal not going through because the Leafs did not want to part with who they thought at the time was their big future, Antropov who i might add was also a stick and blew out his knee a couple of times... we now know how that turned out.

I remember the price was Antropov, 1st and Danny Markov. The leafs bailed when philly asked for Kaberle instead.
