RBK 9k seconds

Recommended Posts

I was looking around for some skates online and came across the RBK 9k seconds from one retailer. Upon closer inspection of the picture provided, I noticed something odd. The body of the skate seems to be that of the 08 model yet the tongue resembles the 07 model. Is this something to do with seconds or the fact that the shop is in Canada vs USA? Also the leather is white which I know was offered for Junior skates but didnt know was offered for seniors.

*edit* I also noticed in the description they say that the skate comes with a THRUSTER footbed and not he griptonite one???

They have my small baked potato foot size 6E and the deal is pretty good not to consider. I just want to know what I am actually buying before I consider purchasing.

Maybe there is something that I don't know. Please enlighten me. Thanks!

Here's the pic:

and for reference, this is the same retailer pic for the 9k Black seconds:

If these are the bad boys from The Hockey Shop in Surrey BC they are the latest greatest... I know I bought a pair of seconds...

Brilliant Buy, I got the White ones with the felt pro tongue.

Great Skates!

Do they have a hole punched in the tendon guard?

You know I looked high and low all over the skates and don't see:

1) Any cosmetic blemishes anywhere

2) Any holes punched anywhere

3) Any structural issues

4) anything denoting anything on the skate period.

They came with the box turned inside out with "Seconds" Stickers on the box and the right skate had a RBK/CCM QA tag that was all in french wording with one box ticked. The tag had something to do with the tendon guard but I couldn't see anything wrong with either skate.

Just ordered a set in WHITE from the The Hockey Shop. The salesman was nice enough to pull them off the rack while I was waiting on the phone to check'em out for me. He said the skates look perfect except for a barely visible blemish on the outside of the heel (basically nothing). I'll cross my fingers and see how they are when they get to me. I can post pics when I get them if you guys are want. :)

I also got a pair of 9k's (in black) from the Hockey Shop. I had the same experience as the poster above: Came with the box inside out and a tag on the skate about the defect in French. There was no hole in the tendon guard, but I could easily find the blem on mine. There are 2 small(less than a 1/8inch) chucks missing from the bottom of the boot close to the outsole. Nothing that I probably wouldn't have done myself after a game or two. Great savings off of the regular price if the skate fits your foot!

I at home now and fished the QA tag out of the packaging box.

It has a tick on the box that says "Bas De Tendon (Dechire / Coupe)"

I don't speak or read "En Francais" therefore I don't know what that means, but again I have examined the skates thoroughly again and see no wrong with them except for the puck marks and other skate/stick marks from the ice times I have had them on for (probably 8-9 skates now)

I have to say I really have appreciated the lace locks and the pump features of these skates. How tight to lace them up has been the only issue I have had with them yet, but the last two ice times they have felt perfect.

I too got a pair of the white ones and the Q/A tag said that there was a problem with the tongue. One of the tongues had a scuff mark on the white felt making an area of it a little gray. No biggie. Great skates, although as others have mentioned the heel is definitely a little wide which requires the pump to make them fit right. I got out there on them day one, coming from a beat up pair of Tack 652s. From the start I felt pretty good on them. After 4 games I'm starting to feel like they're my skates. I'm still considering baking them, but I haven't decided yet.

Thanks to all here for turning me on to the blemished seconds. What a great buy they were.

It has a tick on the box that says "Bas De Tendon (Dechire / Coupe)"

means:

lower part of the Tendon (ripped/cut)

Yeah I tried them (One 75s) on and skated at a public session 2 times but not for very long each time. So I guess they aren't brand new - skated on twice. When I tried them on at the LHS, they seemed great as they were a EE so width (which is usually my biggest problem) wasn't an issue for me. One of the big things was that the arch started to really hurt when I actually tried skating on them. It wasn't something I noticed while at the LHS. The more I skated on it the more apparent it became. Don't get me wrong, I still think that Nike/Bauer does make a superior product but in the end it just didn't fit my "Hobbit" foot well. I am just getting back into Hockey after about a 15+ year hiatus. A good amount of my younger years I skated on Tacks (last pair of skates I owned were 652 Vacutacks from HS). As far as all the skates I tried back then CCM's worked with my foot the best.

Longer story shorter... Wanted to play hockey again. Picked up CCM V08 since I thought they still fit the same and felt ok at shop. Not what I liked. Went back to shop and got ONE 75's skated on them twice. No good. I didn't want to go back to the LHS again to ask for something else since they were nice enough to take back the first pair. Saw 9k seconds online took a chance and ordered. Tried them today. Fits as good as I remembered my Tacks used fit me and is a welcome and familiar feeling. Now I am stuck with One 75s which were skated on twice. Anybody interested? :)

The moral to my story which has been rehashed many times on MSH, it doesn't matter how much technology or R & D went into them if the skate doesn't fit it does you no good.
