Upper-mid range in flexlite line...

Recommended Posts

From top of the line down:

12 - discontinued but still top of the flexlite line.

18 - good.

16 - fair.

14 - low end.

thank you.

is it going to stay this way when the new line comes out or will there be new line numbers?

Does anyone know the pricing for the skates? Cheaper than X60, one95?

just out of interest, is there any reason why the flexlite range is much more unpublicised than the vapor/supreme lines? especially when those who wear them seem to be very happy..

They fit a very minimal number of people, less potential buyers to advertise to. Add to that the fact they they lack the flair and attitude of a skate such as the Vapor line.

Who do they fit? (wide vs narrow foot, high vs low arch??? etc)

I am a referee and LOVE the look of the new 4.0s and am interested in at the very least trying them on. I am coming from Bauer Vapor XXXs then S15s and now CCM U+. The bauer Vapor XXX was the last skat I enjoyed wearing. THe S15 was comfy but unlglued in a matter of 5 months, and the U+ never fit right (lack of heel lock, pinching in toe-box, ankle slop) and are now bubbling and tearing on the outside.

I want to go back to Bauers but couldnt stand the fit of the XXXX and couldnt afford the Supreme One95 or the length of break-in period, (in hind sight it wouldve been shorter than my U+ break in...UGH) as I am a referee and dont get practices to try my equipment out.

I am also looking for a new helmet that doesnt make me look like an astronaut (my Bauer 5000 does) I need a low profile helmet. Recommendations besides the 4500? V0Maybe the V08?

If the helmet fits, a 4500 is nice for reffing along with the CCM V08. The Flexlites I've owned had big toeboxes and lots of ankle padding. I've always felt that the Flexlite eliminated a lot of ankle slop. I guess you'd have to try it on or look for some Grafs as well. They seem to be popular with the referees and linesmen.

Flexlites fit high volume, lower arch, very wide with a somewhat "normal" heel. Caveman feet.

The new 4.0 will start at $350 ($349.99), and my LHS tells me they'll get my pair in June, so I'm assuming it's not a regular Spring release.

That's depressing. :( I was ready to go out and get them. hopefully they at least release what the line will look like, as I'm not sure if I want to spend the 350 on the 4.0's or go down one to the 3.0's. Will have to see.

I read from JR's post in the 2009 Bauer thread that only FL4.0 Pro will be a pro level skate. I want to know what are some differences btw the FL4.0 pro vs. the FL12.

I believe, from another post, that the 4.0 Pro is going to be like 20 or 22 euro-only skate, which was pretty comparable to the FL 12. Again, it will unfortunately be a euro-only model. :(

I've been looking for a flexlite 12 for a while won't find it unless custom i'd say. I dont have monster beast feet, but I do have an accessory bone on my left foot that hurts with skates that i've even punched. The only skate out of the box I ever felt comfortable with on both feet was my FL 12. So i'm debating on going custom unless the FL 4.0 Pro will be coming out in the US.

Considering the 4.0 retail is a few hundred less than a base One95, I'm sure customs won't be running you $700.

Go to your local dealer, the 2009 catalog has pics of all 4 skates. I thought $350 was pretty darn good considering the Vapor 40 just dropped to $400 to clear stock.

Any idea which Canadian retailers will be carrying the new Flexlites, and when they'll be available?

I had some older ones, wore them out, and switched over to the Graf 735s, and just can't get used to the pitch or the forefoot pain. The flexlites were painless, and I'd like to get back into a pair.

I'm not in Canada, but I assume most major Bauer retailers that carry the ONE and Vapor lines would probably be likely to carry the flexlites as well. I think, especially with their redesign, they will be a bigger seller then the first generation.

Most retailers won't carry them since so few feet fit them. Anyone who can get Bauer skates can get Bauer skates from all 3 lines, they should order them for you no problem, or at least add them to their initial booking order.

Makes sense; thanks guys. I'll check with OTG to see if National will be carrying them. I just hope that the fit is the same as the old ones.

Incidently, my old flexlites (at least, I think they're flexlites) don't appear to have a number on them, simply an "apollo" logo. Not sure where that stood in the lineup.

Those are youth or Junior skates, no?

EDIT: Never mind, they are the lower line of the FL12's I believe.

That would make sense; they were awfully cheap. But they made such a huge difference in my play; nothing hampers skating performance more than aching feet. I don't quite understand why the 735s won't break in; perhaps the forward lean puts more weight on my forefoot, which is already probably a touch too wide for the skate even in the W width.

Probably should have just stuck with what worked in the first place, and got another pair of flexlites when they were still available.

How much do you play? the 735's are a fairly high performance skate, especially compared to the Apollo.

About 3X a week, all year, and push the scale to about 215lbs. I figured that contributed to the flexlites breaking down in a couple years, and figured I could justify the cost of a stiffer/higher end skate. As I mentioned, I think the pitch combined with the narrower forefoot/toebox is the issue. I guess I could try stretching them/profiling/new holders, but instead of spending more money on something that may or may not work, I might as well just shell out a few more bills on something that I know will work.
