Short pants don't. Capri pants don't. Softball pants don't. Football pants don't.

That won't make your case.

You're absolutely right. Make that, "pants extend below the knee" :)

Without seeing it in a catalog, I have to think it's just regional slang.

Yea, definitely regional slang. I'd never heard the term before until I was in a store one day and the sign said "breezers" over the pants aisle. I asked about it and he said "yea, as opposed to a girdle". Okay then.

Hockey Pants. Calling them that since my roller days in the 70's in NYC, high school ice in CT to Beer League in LA where at least 50% of the players are from elsewhere.

In St. Louis, Missouri they are called "Hockey Pants". I have heard people say breezers at tournaments in Chicago (I suppose the teams I heard saying it might have been from out of town too though).

Used to always be able to tell what the forgetful guy in the locker room was asking for by whether he asked if you had any extras "socks" (the ones on your feet) or "hockey socks" (the ones over your shin guards). Then some genius starting making special socks for hockey that go on your feet. So now "Hockey Socks" is no longer specific enough to tell what he is talking about.

Now if you Canadians could just explain to everyone in Missouri that shinny is informal or "pickup" ice hockey and not a game played by kids with tiny sticks and nets crawling around on their shins, I would really appreciate it.

Short pants don't.

Nor do underpants.

Thank you, pants expert! I should have seen this coming from someone who's online alias is a red-neck jeans manufacturer.

How is this a three page discussion?

All the manufacturers refer to them as hockey pants. The term Breezers is just odd regional slang.
