Does this tape tear up palms easier?

Recommended Posts

I have used both normal white tape (I was told growing up that black tape had dye in it that would promote the rot in glove palms /rolleyes) and this grip tape and have never noticed one chewing up palms more than another.

any tape will kill your palms, forget tape all togethor and go for the tacki mac command grip. my plams show no sign of wear, and Ive been playing 4 times a week for like 4 months on these gloves.

I disagree, I think it is more of a case of sharp angles and points killing palms. I always round off corners and sides with sandpaper and never ever have that problem with a hole in the corner of my palm.

I like the renfrew grip tape - I usually use white tape then wrap the grip tape around it. I haven 't noticed any deterioration in my palms.

It's really soft, so unless there is some chemical in there that would damage the palms, I would be surprised to see any damage.

I'm a novice player and am playing about 2-3 hours a week since December.

yes but that grip tape stuff doesnt last very long, use to last me about 2 weeks and then it was worn out and then starts to wear the palms out.

I use that tape and I got a hole in the palms of my XXXs within two months, probably closer to the one month mark. Thats with two hours of ice 5-6 days a week. I've had them for over two years now and the palm is practically non existent, the palm on my other glove is perfectly fine though.

I still like using it though...

I have used Renfrew Grip Tape (in red if that matters) with digital palms without developing holes. I had it on for a season of spring hockey before I decided to rip it all off. What ends up happening to the tape is you start getting the sticky adhesive surfacing to the top of the tape and your stick handle will be all gooey. After that the tape will stop sticking and it'll start falling off.

At $4.99CAN for a small roll it's a purchase I don't intend on making again. It's too expensive for too little tape. I went back to using regular colored tape for my handle.

That Powerflex tape did rip up my gloves quicker than regular tape. I also switched to Tacki Mac and the glove wear has stopped (for now at least). I believe it's because the TM grips really "lock" your hand in place when you squeeze, so there's no friction from the grip turning in your palm. I also let mine go about 1/16" past the end of the shaft so it doesn't rub against the palm.

I agree with you, but the powerflex style tape does wear faster/more than normal cloth tape. I also use the Oggie sticky foam under my tape to soften up the grip and make the end spongy. Since doing that I haven't had any problems with my gloves.

Im a single layer of powerflex changed frequently guy and I love it, but Im trying out a sand tackimac right now. We'll see how it goes, might be too thick and too squishy if you know what I mean.
