Girdle Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have been wearing the same bilt rite girdle now for years and its time to get a new one, but I cannot decide on what to get. What all girdles do you guys wear and like? I want one that provides some protection but I don’t want it to affect my mobility. I am looking at the Valken V-Elite or Mission Advantage. What do you suggest?

I just picked up a V-Elite and I love it -- I had been using an Easton ST-10 ice girdle just because I got slew footed and hurt my tailbone in a lower end CCM roller girdle. The Easton was super-protective but had way more padding than I realistically needed. The V-Elite has low-profile padding that's still much more dense than the RBK gridles and gives you much better thigh protection than the Mission girdles. It's also very comfortable -- the vented stretch material in the inseam is very, uh, "breezy" in a way I hadn't experienced before :)

The girdle I am waering right now is getting too small, thin and worn out for me but I dont know what kind of girdle I should get. I wanted one that is pretty light but still gives me decent protection, any suggestions??

The V-elite looks pretty bulky in pictures, is that just the look?

Just looks that way, because the padding is semi-rigid and holds its shape. I'd say the padding is probably about 1/4" thick at most.

It’s far from bulky in person. The pictures also gave me that impression and was why I was not so sure at first when I ordered it, but now I have no regrets.

Throwing in my vote for the Tour Evo girdle. For as picky as I am about gear and wanting to constantly try new stuff, I've had this girdle for almost 2 years now. It's light, protective and, best of all, inexpensive. I'm going to have a difficult time trying another girdle.

My shop has basically nothing in stock as far as girdles go so I was curious what I would be in the market for myself:

My ideal pad is enough protection to keep from getting cuts and bruises from asphalt or a lightly shot puck, that's it, nothing fancy, nothing huge. I guess I'm asking what's the cheapest, most minimal set out there that's actually worth spending money on.

The place I'm ordering from has the Elite in an Adult small, and the Thorax Advantage in a Junior Large. I ususally wear 29" waist pants, and I'm 5'5" tall. Which should I get? I wear Junior XL hockey pants, and I need the belt to keep them on. The thorax Advantage doesn't have a belt, which kind of concerns me, as I have a feeling the elastic might loosen up. There are no size charts for the Elite, so I can't tell how long they are going to be.

I'm 5'9" with a 32" waist and the V-Elite in adult medium fits me perfectly. If I were guessing I'd say the adult small would fit you fine.

How much protection do we need?

As most people I started in ice hockey shorts (Team Canada), very bulky and not very cool, however I was playing full contact roller hockey.

I then switched to a Biltrite Works wrap girdle with full coolmax liner, this served me well for a few years then I quit the sport. I have recently returned and found that newer girdles seem to offer very little protection, and use the compression short fitting.

After a little thought, I can't remember the last time I hurt my ass. Although I like reassurance when blocking shots, and although we play non checking, there is still contact.

Is something like a Reebok 9k enough protection? Do any people wear nothing at all? And does anyone still rate the Biltrite Works??

I also have my eye on a Valken, being 5'7 200 lbs and a 34" waist would I be a M or L?

I don't wear a girdle or anything similar and I know lots of other guys don't either. Because roller pucks are lighter, they don't carry the force of an ice hockey puck that can do so much damage. I get popped now and again, and it hurts, but I don't see any danger of any sort of long term injury. I think my biggest fear is the extra padding a girdle would provide should I end up falling directly on my tailbone or hip bone, but I feel like those are just freak injuries that just happen sometimes.

It's just one less product I have to buy, and one less thing that will lead to me being less hot when I play. When I way the costs vs benefits, girdles just aren't something I think I need.

im 5'10" 190lbs....33 waist so by sizing charts for the v-elite i fall somewhere between the medium and the large. how do these run? what size would you recommend?

I've got some room in the medium, so I'd think that'd fit you fine. I'm 5'9" 175 32" waist.

I've found a good compromise to be snowboard impact shorts. They're about as light as you can get. They'r enot as near as protective as inline girdles, but have that "just in case" padding in the hip & tailbone area. I've been using them for about 5 years.

Ouch! Got you good.

I stick with the Mission DSX girdle, its super slim, comes with a cup and fits great.
