extra-long NHL pattern hockey socks?

Recommended Posts

ok so maybe i'm anal about cleaning my gear, but i wash my socks after every skate, which makes them shrink a little over time (yes i hang them dry). who makes extra-long socks in NHL patterns? i'm looking for knit socks in toronto white (if it makes a difference). i tried edge socks, but they're the stupidest things i've ever bought. super tight around the ankle and crazy baggy around my knees/thighs. i'm looking for something like the standard knit ones you find anywhere (like a tube sock), just ~3 inches longer...

I just bought a pair of CCM socks off HockeyWorld and they seemed long as hell to me. Unfortunately, they don't have Toronto colored pairs, but maybe you could just look for the CCM ones on a different site.

Athletic Knit socks. CCM adult socks are 28" and Athletic Knit is 32" standard, so if you are going off CCM sizing AK is exactly what you're looking for...

I have some prostock Lewiston Maineiacs socks and they are really long, they are made by CCM. They are a tad bit longer then my retail CCM socks that I also have, so I would say prostock would be the way to go.

thanks! Athletic Knit looks promising. i can only find "cartoon" pictures of them... does the knit taper as it gets closer to the ankle, or are they just a constant "tube" with an elastic band at the bottom? can't tell from the pictures...

Yeah they taper as they get down to the bottom, but all socks do. I haven't used CCM's in a while but from what I remember of them the AK's are not nearly as tapered. AK's stretch pretty well towards the bottom.

S4gobabygo,

What size edge socks did you try? I've had sock length issues for a while and made the switch over to the retail version at the start of this season and have had no issues with fit (and this is with some fairly wide RBK shins pads).

are they long? i've heard lots of great things about them, but nothing about them being especially long.

thanks. that sounds like what i'm looking for.

i used the adult retail edge socks. the fit was just afwul. the ankle was way too tight to get over my skate without restricting my ankle motion, and the knee area of my shinguards were absolutely swimming in them. the knee/thigh area was literally baggy enough to go OVER my pants without stretching. (i'm tall/thin if you havent guessed yet)

Pear Sox

whats the diff between mesh and pro-weight?

Pro weight are similar to the CCM...but more durable knit, and MUCH better elastic at the bottom. Pear sox are the only socks I have seen that I can stretch over my shins and the top part of my skates. Top quality, and wash well.

Mesh socks are just that...mesh. Think of a mesh jersey....stitched to be a sock. Much lighter and porous. Personally I like mesh socks in the summer and in the warmer rinks.

I feel your pain...6' 2" and about 160lbs. The key to socks are how well they respond to washing. Pear sox remain stretchable when washed in cold water and dried with a good fabric softener sheet. I prefer snuggle. The bear likes to hug my socks in the dryer
