Hey Guys,

Since joining up at MSH I have seen many many guys from this area of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. (regular posters like JBYun04 and furlanitalia instantly spring to mind)

I think it would be cool to have a get together and rent some ice and have a meet up.

We could rent a 1.5-2 hour ice time at any of the many rinks in the GVA and maybe head upstairs for some "pops" afterwards.

Let's see what the interest level is...

Post if you are interested and some suggestions for what rinks might be appropriate.

I was thinking something like the Planet Ice Delta (Great Pacific Forum) as it is centrally located for folks as has good access off the E/W Connector is about 30 minutes from anywhere in the Lower Mainland by Car. And the Ice isn't drastically overpriced or anything (Can be had for $150-250 per hour) They also have Boomers Bar upstairs.

30 guys @ $15 or $20 gives us a bit of cash to get some ice rented.

If numbers are a bit short maybe it could be a MSH'er and a friend...

Location of event will be determined by area's suggested by reply posts and the facility will preferably have a bar/lounge/pub at it or very nearby.

Good shout there...

Maybe we could rent the ice for 2.5 hours, do a 45 minutes skills comp and a game... I'm sure we could get the leagues that operate there to give us a ref.

oh and a buddy rents the ice every friday night at the agrodome (PNE) and it works out to 15 a head for 25 skaters...

ideally if we actually do this, not in delta is prefered

When posting please state where you would prefer it or make a facility suggestion.

The Two Planet Ice locations (Planet Ice Coquitlam or GPF in North Delta) are probably the easiest as they have lots of ice sheets, are close to Highway access and are both fairly centrally located (Coquitlam on an East West Highway and Delta on a North South Highway)

If we got a screaming deal on a nicer facility like the Colliseum, Agrodome, or even *shudder to think- GM Place* that would be cool too, so everyone search their phones for their connections in high places :D

I will organize the ice time and everything once we figure out the interest level.

Obviously anyone else that is willing to come to our fair city from elsewhere is more than welcome to do so ;)

You'd be surprised....we've had a skater from Edmonton in Novi, Michigan for the Skate the last 2 years.

Thats hilarious, I was just in Novi a month ago. Ended up at the rink of course, but only because the GPS said thats where Perani's was.

Keep in mind Planet Ice Coquitlam has only two sheets in Summer.

Obviously getting a little ahead of ourselves, but is anyone keen to an idea of getting some inexpensive sweaters made up for this with MSH branding on them? or should we just go Black & White? I'm sure J.R. or Chadd have some way for us to accomplish this inexpensively.

GM Place goes for $1200.00 and all that gets you is a fresh sheet of ice, a locker room for 30 minutes pre and post game and up to 50 people in the facility, and underground parking.

So if you had 30 guys you would charge $40.00 for the ice time only.

I'm sure for $40 we could get practice sweaters with a MSH Branding and numbers silkscreened and the icetime each.

Plus the rentals ended in March and won't fire up again till September as the facility (ice-in) is not available once the playoffs start and through the preseason.

its been the best ice i've skated on for a long time... (other than GM place)

I second that. I still work at playland and they have stick and puck for employees every wednesday lunch. The facility is average at best, however (I don't remember seeing much of a locker room).

I'd definitely be down for the MSH vancouver skate though...it would be nice to finally put a face to the names of you regulars on this forum!

the lockerroom is upstairs... its fun walking up and down the stairs.. its like a good 2 minute walk from the ice to the lockerroom,

yeah the facility is pretty bad, but the ice is nice :D

I would maybe make the drive up, depending on how far north the ice is. I'm in northern WA, so Vancouver's not that far for me. I was just up there in November for a 'Nucks game. I'm not the best skater out there, but it's a fun skate, so who cares.

Is the ice at Barnaby 8 (is that the name?) any good? I seem to remember someone saying the ice was pretty shotty at best.

All the ice here is pretty good. Some of the multi sheet rinks can be decent, but there aren't too many places here with bad ice.

Ice Sports Burnaby 8 rinks is what you are talking about.

The Planet Ice Delta (GPF) is right off the hwy towards Vancouver from the border (no more than 20 minutes from either Blaine Border Crossing)

really? maybe I have never played on those sheets...the ice times I have had at Burnaby (few and far between the last 5 years or so) have always been great.

Yes, they still do. I think it's the Blue rink on the B side though. It has best locker room of the bunch as well! You don't find cubby-holes in many locker rooms nowadays. On a side note, I find that the ice gets progressively worse as you go from Blue, Red, Gold to Green rinks.

I'm a Valley Guy and spend increasingly less time in rinks on the North Side of the River these days.

Wife and Children do that to you ;)
