Adult League in Pittsburgh

Recommended Posts

No offense, but I also vote against an underage player. It not only is a risk to our team, but is a legal risk to the arena as well. I understand you are a big kid, but there's rules set in place against this in case you should happen to get hurt by an adult; which explains the steep penalties for breaking said rules.

I like both jerseys, just knowing a lot of teams wear dark jerseys I thought it would look slick. Again maybe getting ahead of myself we just pick one and if the team stays together we could always get a home and away jersey.

Also I was thinking about going to pick up next sat 940 pm at warrendale, its $ 10 to get in and I think it be cool if we could all meet up and skate together a bit

I have a few buddies from college that are decent and interseted in playing. How many do you think we should roster?

I would say to roster enough players to knock the price down to the point where having to pay league fees and jersey fees isn't going to bury anybody too much... where that point is is your guys' call... I'll have a rough logo sketch up shortly for critique, and to get the ball rolling.

A VERY rough sketch of my idea for a team logo... Using orange, white, and blue would really make it "pop" so to speak. And getting help from someone such as DEFIANT would help.

I love the sketch! That's awesome! We need a great name to go with it!

I know a great company that does number stickers for helmets as well if ppl would be interestd.

The max roster size is 22, must play 3 games to be eligible for playoffs.

For a name, I was thinking something that goes with the way this team is being assembled... basically piece by piece. There's a few food references we can use. Namely there's a dish popular in the California/San Fransisco area that originates from all the fisherman coming into port in the evening and they all chipped something into a big seafood stew. It's called Chippino... granted this might be a stretch, but I was just thinking from a logo standpoint I can probably do something clever with a crab, a pot, and some hockey sticks that would look pretty cool in blue and orange. But, like I said people might be really confused when they see "Chippino" as a team name.

You saw that episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay too, didn't you?

HAHA Actually, it was an episode of Tyler's Ultimate, but Throwdown! is quite a good show as well.

We need to start a running tally of interested players, to gauge interest. You can mark me and my friend down. As far as what level... my friend is quite good... and, I may not start out too well, but I promise you I learn very quickly.

We don't have to use that name or the logo. We could call ourselves The Crabbers, Oh Shucks, Deadliest Catch, King Crab... anything can go with that logo. It's just my 2 cents worth

I also went ahead and sent a message to DEFIANT to get an idea of what the pricing would look like to have crests and numbers done for the jerseys. The blank jerseys and socks (for those who want them) will run $42 and $20 respectively before the cost of having crests and numbers applied. I don't think that's too bad of a price, and if we order in bulk the price will go down. I won't be handling ordering this stuff. I'm just trying to help Apes out as much as I can because I know how much of a hassle doing all this stuff alone can be.

Apes, Do you know what the rules about facial protection are at warrendale? I only wear a visor, and I'll need to get a cage if they require them.

from the panphlet "all players must wear USA hockey approved equipment, including cage or half sheild" So as long as you wear a visor thats approved i think you're ok. I know I wear the visor too! I wonder if the Ovi chorme visor is legal!

I wear a tinted visor because I have really bad light sensitivity. So hopefully they're okay with it. As far as pickup this coming saturday, no go. I have a lot of baseball going on saturday, and a banquet that night. The following saturday, barring I leave for a short trip to Philly early, should be good.

I played up there tonight with an HS22, nobody said anything to me about it. There was also a guy on my team wearing an old Cooper Helmet with a cat eye cage, I highly doubt that is certified.

Also concerning the number of players to roster:

2 Lines of Forwards: 6 Players

2 Lines of Defense: 4 Players

1 Goalie: 1 Player

Total: 11 Players

$1200/ 11 people= $110 per person in league fees + $80 (Rough Estimate Jerseys and Socks) = $190 Per Person Total

3 Lines of Forwards: 9 Players

2 Lines of Defense: 4 Players

1 Goalie: 1 Player

Total: 14 Players

$1200/ 14 People= $86 per person in league fees + $80 (Rough Estimate Jerseys and Socks) = $166 Per Person Total

3 Lines of Forwards: 9 Players

3 Lines of Defense: 6 Players

1 Goalie: 1 Player

Total: 16 Players

$1200/ 16 People= $75 per person in league fees + $80 (Rough Estimate Jerseys and Socks) = $155 Per Person Total

All of this is a rough figure I came up with. The cost of jerseys and socks will go down if we order more uniforms. The number of players we take on really depends on how much playing time everyone wants. Personally, going with 14 total players and dropping the total price to $166 a guy doesn't sound bad to me at all. The only thing is we really have to make sure people understand is they get their ice time and get off, no taking 5 minute shifts. When I finish the crest I'll talk to DEFIANT and get a quote on the price of having him do the crest and numbering for the jerseys; he seems like a great guy from the few conversations I've had with him, and I would love if we could support his business.

Apes, when does the session begin? It feels like it should be closing in on us pretty quickly.

I prefer the 3 lines, seeing as how my old team rostered a full 22 but with peoples lives and such we usually had 2 fulls lines.

The guy there didnt know the exact date but he said this season is ending soon so he thinks june. I work the late shift today so I can't call but the contact there is Mike Sellers 724-772-0259, after 6:30 pm, so if someone wants to call today that would be a big help, I am working the late shift again so I can not call until thursday.

As far as level goes, they have B, C, D. I think C would probably a good place for us to start, if we dominate we can always move up next season, if we do not do well we can move down. Also if we have a meet up skate some night we could get a better feel. This saturday sounds like it doesnt work

You're referring to the 3 lines of forwards, and three lines of defense correct? I like that idea as well, I completely forget that sometimes people are not able to show up for one reason or another; especially in the busy summer months. We need to get to work on moving this forward if the season really does begin in June. Collecting jersey fees, getting sizes, having the jerseys ordered and shipped, and then having the cresting and numbering done is going to take some time, especially if we roster 16+ players. I'll try to finish the crest up by the end of the week and have it up here for everybody's approval, as well as send it over to DEFIANT to get a quote on what all the crests and numbering will cost. There may even be some interest in getting a few extra crests made in case we pick up more players at some point, I know my girlfriend wants an extra one to put on a t-shirt. We also need to decide on dark or white uniforms. I understand that this may be getting a bit intensive to some of you guys, but one this is taken care of the first time all future session and jersey orders will run a lot more smoothly if everything is taken care of now.

The other thing to think about too is do we want names and numbers or just numbers (i think just numbers is beter for this) ? I know I will probably want an extra crest as well.

My two cents on the jersey is the whites, the tie at the top makes it for me!

Joey can you call the place tonight after 6:30 and try to get an exact start date

Hey guys,

I might be interested in this. I'm supposed to be playing on a team in Moon (at the Airport Arena), but I still haven't heard much about when it's starting. I'm starting to get a bit antsy.

If RMU is the place, mark me down as tentative. I will follow the thread and let you guys know what I'm going to do ASAP.

Thanks!

I think crests and numbers will suffice. And, whites it is. I'll get the crest drawn up and sent to DEFIANT as soon as I can. I will also go ahead and call for the start dates and more information tonight when I get home.

I played in the A and B leagues in Warrendale last couple years. As far as the helmet/mask requirement.....In the A league, as long as you have something on your lid, its cool. They don't push the issue too much as far as having at least a half shield. For B league and I assume below...they are kinda strict on having at least a half shield. They'll let you slide a game or two but then won't let you skate as the season progresses. Also there isn't anyone checking stickers to see if gear is official or not.

Have fun though I've heard a rumor that this is the last year for this rink. In the process of being sold.

I'm sending a vector image of that logo to DEFIANT to help with us getting a quote on having the crests done. Also, I called this evening to Warrendale BladeRunners and Mike said that the new session would start towards the end of June.
