Just curious if all NHL players wear custom skates, or do any just get them out of the box like (most) of the rest of us?

I would think a good amount of them would use customs. How many people actually find the *perfect* fitting skate in the retail store?? I know for myself one might have a slightly small toe box, but if everythiing else fits well, ill use it. I would like to think that a team that's paying someone over a million dollars a year would shell out the 600 bucks to get a custom pair of skates that would help them perform.

Id say a large majority if not 99% of them wear custom skates but we have gotten plenty of skates in the past from pro teams that were stock skates. No custom number on the sole and retail sizing tags on the inside of the skate. A lot of times we'll get custom skates that have the same exact specs and look just like retail so im sure if a guys in a tight jam and needs a pair of skates fast, retail is obviously the quickest way!

Here's a couple of other questions: Are the custom options available to the pro's the same as those available to everyone else, or, do the pro's have additional options? If so, what might they be? I'm not looking for custom skates at the moment, but find this subject interesting.

I believe there options are the same that are available to customers looking to purchase customs...

Stiffness/Eyelets/Tongue/Heel-Forefoot widths/Holders and Steel/Toecaps

i think there might be extra options for them. i got a pair of prostock gaboricks that are completely dif fit from standard eastons and have random extra foam put in in places like the forefoot and under the ankle. super odd feeling

My guess is that those Gaborik's were probably built from a mold of his feet with significant mods (think Forsberg type mods), which would explain the differences from the standard Easton fit. I know Easton has been trying extremely hard for an extremely long time to get Gaborik into its skates since he is an Easton poster boy.
