NAHL

One of my good friends plays in this league. Does anyone know if this league gets decent exposure to scouts and whatnot? I know a few teams have expressed interest, im just wondering what the real odds are.

NAHL is alright...they used to have the NTDP team in the league, but I think I heard they're pulling out. I don't think the NA get's as much exposure as the ECHL, or the OHL..but it's a Good experience, and if he works hard and keeps a good attitude, he'll get noticed by someone.

the ECHL is a pro league.. NAHL is a tier II junior A league. Most kids are trying to play in college. Step below USHL, step above Most but not all EJHL teams.

pretty close with the ushl. say think of it as the "alternative" to the ushl

overall good league, not many go straight to nhl out of it but you get lots of ncaa exposure and then if all goes well you have a great shot to make the show

THAT'S what I meant, USHL. I Thought ECHL didn't sound right.

Well, what was his name that was drafted by Philly a few years ago straight out of the NA thats with the Phantoms? That was one of the more recent drafted players, and even then, he was league MVP that season and he went late in the draft. The NAHL seems to have gone down in skill lately, and having the NTDP pull out doesnt help their look anymore either. Also, I would disagree that the NA is a USHL alternative.

On the note that your buddy has practiced with the Blues: I know plenty of the Tornado kids that practiced with the Stars...in a way. The healthy scratches were assigned with shooting puck at Turco early in the mornings. Your friend probably got to go out at practice and be a "practice goalie" which is just essentially a body in net, or used when one of the actual goalies is injured or working off ice that day. I know the goalie that filled in for washington as backup when they were in a pinch this season is also a practice goalie as well as actually working in the organization.

What helps your buddy is the fact that he is going to spend alot of time developing his game at college (possibly 5 years)...and could have a shot at the pro-game after college. Guys getting drafted from the NA is pretty uncommon...but hey, I hope he does, looks like he had a good season, I didnt look at his age, but if he is going to enter his first draft then good for him, if he is an over-ager you never know...

Ben Bishop was in the NAHL before heading to UMaine and on to the pros. It's a big step down from USHL. But you will get a few guys getting scholarships to D1 schools and you will see one make the show here and there.
