ive seen dustin byfuglien sport u + with light speeds. they look dirty. just thought id comment since this is a u + thread.

Dirty as in dirty-good or dirty-bad?

On a side note, I'm liking my U+ skates. I had them fit properly, I have no heel movement and my feet don't hurt.

(It's exactly the same with Porsche actually, they sell a GT2 60000$ more than a Turbo to get less)

I see your point but that argument is pretty dumb. I'm assuming you understand why they take the AWD system away for the GT2?

Nope ...

+ 520bhp on the rear wheels with the engine behind the rear wheels -> make the car compleyely undrivable and very dangerous (backpack effect).. unless if you are a real pilote (when you see some video topgear&co the guy drifting in the corners, holding the wheel with one finger, don't except to be able to make the same).

Of course at first it feels very efficient and everything but when you'll get over the limits first there's no warning and it's very violent.. the chassis is obsolete.

They should have put this engine in a boxter/gayman that would have been awesome B)

But they won't let you do that, you can't easily swap with a 911 engine, it simply won't fit.

No questions why they don't sell a lot of GT2.

The 997 GT2 is way more drivable than the 996 GT2 though ... faster than the completely screwed carrera GT. But definitely not for everybody and it still very dangerous and overpriced. For less bucks you can get a GT3 cup or some mid-engine supercar

Keep in mind that a 911 carrera cost the same price to produce than a coupe 3-serie BMW...

Check the price gap!

Cars are fun when they're a little hairy to drive... give me a GT2 over a turbo anyday of the week! Oh, and some CCM U+ Pro's would be alright to try out too :D

First off, that is the point. They drop the AWD for the GT2.

Second off, THAT IS THE POINT. It's a drivers car, its not for any old man, or new millionaire. You better know how to drive a rear engine car if you actually want to use that car remotely close to its potential.

Third, they sell every GT2 they make, rofl. It's an up sell of the turbo because it has more performance, albeit it is much harder to tap. This still does not parallel your post I originally quoted.

Fourth, nobody is debating that the boxster/cayman isnt a more efficient platform? Why would you even bring that up. It's not a 911, you know why a 911 sells, the point is moot.

And to finish off, BMW should have taken more weight out of the M3 and given it more torque if it really wanted to it compete with a 911. And this is coming from a BMW M3 owner. If Porsche can squeeze more profit out of a 911 than BMW can from a 3 series, good for them.

Back to your regularly scheduled programs ppl, sorry for the OT.

How does the width on both this years and last years U+ compare to Vector Pros?

I dont have a LHS around me that has any in stock in my size and I cant try them on but I am considering getting a pair. Length wise in CCM i am always a 7 but the width has seemed to vary since the tacks line was dropped. I have a pair of vector pros in 7D that fit good but if anything are on the narrow side in the forefoot. Would I most likely be a D or an E in U+? Any input from U+ owners or shop workers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know any pro pilote that acutally has a GT2 (i'm not talking about the cup models)... it's clearly like you said for old man and new millionaire... last dude i saw with a GT2 just dropped off his enzo.. saying that it was more efficient that an Enzo B)

For a pro pilote, who would be crazy enough to put 200k$ in a obsolete/dangerous car while for half of that price you can have true racing cars (ariel atom, corvette ZR1,... etc) with way more advanced chassis, true driving experience, most of all they won't kill you if you do a single mistake.

Anyway it's been quite a while now that porsche sells his 911 as some modern fashion objects, mainly made to go from clubs to clubs. Exactly like Ferraris actually

For the rest, you clearly have no idea about what you're talking about.. probably never saw porsche selling records, sat/drive in/a GT2,... but you clearly sound like someone touching himself on some car magazine ;)

Do me a favor and take your off topic banter out of my thread, okay? I've read what you've said about these skates - you don't have any direct experience with them - so thanks for the input.

I own the '08 U+'s, bought them in March for $300 from a link that was posted in the "good deal" thread. I have had no problems with mine except a little wear on the liner from the tongue, nothing to worry about though. The break-in time seemed a little long and I had them baked twice, now they feel like a part of me. Most comfy skate I've owned, and super light - I dig 'em!

P.S. - I ditched the rocket runner for fear of bad sharpenings...

about a month, on the ice twice a week for 2-3 hours each time. so I guess approx. 16-20 hrs of skating, give or take.

I bought them in March, first summer league game was May 2nd, they were good to go about a week before the first game...

oh, and I've "played" around with the new '09 pros....it seems like they fixed a lot of the issues people were having, new outer material, new liner, more u foam, etc. they look real nice, they'll probably be my next pair of skates. I really like the volume of the u skates.

What sort of volume are they, on the higher or lower side? And how is the arch support?

Cheers

Damn, that's a pretty long time to break in skates. I've scratched them off my list because of that. I'm hoping the 09 pros are easier on the feet compared to the 08 model.

phunky monkey - higher volume, they're a pretty deep skate

tonguesOUT4life - it was totally worth it

so guys i got my skates baked for a second time and played tonight and these skates were INCREDIBLE.

really happy with them now...no more pain,....

took me about 12 hours in total to break in but it's totally worth it.

but im still itching to try out a pair of 9k's....

anyone know if the 9k is deeper than the U+?

U+ is definitely deeper in my experience. just got our 09 U+ pro skates in today, and they look like they have addressed all the issues present with the last generation. fit seems alot narrower too

yeah i think it is narrower.....

the best part about the 09' model is NO ROCKET RUNNER!

no more missions to get a sharpening...

How are the new ones for durability? Im really looking at the u+ pro 09's (the 09 pro model, is that correct?) but im gonna wait tell some people wear them to see if there actually improved. Going to need new skates soon anyways.

OK...

so after having skated in the U+ Pro's (Reloaded) for about 15 hours and getting them baked twice, i am thinking of ditching them due to excessive heel slippage. My last year's V08's were the same size (9E) and i did not have this problem.

Other than that, the skate is pretty good. Boot isn't as stiff as some other higher end skates on the market and believe that this U-Foam is just like any other foam in a high end skate....

Anyone else experiencing the heel slippage issue with the skate??

Thinking of getting a pair of 9k's instead.
