Polishing scuffed up helmets

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this has been covered before, but anyways I found an old CCM 652 helmet in a box at home and it's scuffed up a bit in certain areas. I removed the CSA/HECC stickers and now it has a clean shiny spot on each side of the helmet lol

Anyone ever tried polishing their helmets and what products/methods were used?

I was thinking of wet sanding the helmet then using some Meguiar's PlastX polish I have in the garage.

You might try rubbing compound, then polish compound, then a little wax. If the rubbing compound doesn't take out the scratches, then bump up to a wetsand and then the compounds.

i'd go with some sort of polishing compound first as jarick recommended. maybe something like brasso or another suggestion would be something called "polywatch". it's used routinely to give a nice shiny new finish to watches with acrylic crystals. i'd be a bit worried about going a bit too agressive by accident with wet sanding as you may compromise the integrity of the helmet. good luck.
