Hockey gear in New York

Recommended Posts

Yup, they're in Amherst...

Yeah, Amherst is right down the Millersport Highway from where I am sitting right now (in my house). From my place it is probably a good six hour drive (well, my dad does it in 5 1/2 :D ) to NYC. As you had said, he's probably not going to want to make that trip.

The Sports Plus in New Hyde Park is pretty solid. I don't know about the one in Middle Village.

Oh god no. Their selection is alright, prices are high, and the guy who runs that place is the biggest a-hole i've ever met.

When talking about old wood sticks..the pro shop in South Windsor the last time I was there still had some Rick Vaive TPM 2020 or 3020's and some green Hartford cooperall Long Pants!! I even found one of my boy Max Middendorf's in the rack...

As for the old daoust..there are some shops in SoCal that still had them..and some in NY that I've seen on occasion..

GM..you have some time on your hands now eh??

Enjoy NY. Its a great place. Best at Christmas time..IMO

NYC has changed a lot in the last ten years.. Especially where I live (Greenwich Village). Oversized, gawky buildings being erected everywhere, the porn from times sq being forced to 14th st and below, the criminals and addicts from Washington Square Park being flushed into the Village side streets to do their business, and a s***load of restaurants/major influx of poser-types. NYU is also trying really hard to ruin the lower west side as well. NYC is still great, but in my eyes, there has been a certain decline. Maybe I'm just one of the many bitter lower west side residents, but a lot of us miss it the way it used to be.

LOL. What's really bad is when you're on a Downtown bound F train trying to make a concert at Irving Plaza by 8 and at 7:20 they tell you that you have to get off at Rockafeller Plaza because of track flooding. This is no good.

...I still have family in NJ, so whenever we go down to visit, we always take a trip to the city. Personally, I love it. The size of it is a bit overwhelming at first, but I think I have gotten used to it.

After seeing "Gangs of New York" I just had to go see the Five Points on my next visit (anybody else who has seen the movie knows what I am talking about). REALLY cool when you are actually there in person, standing in the same place all of these brawls actually took place, sepparated only by time. Its almost like if you concentrate really hard, you can hear the fighting. One of the best things about the area is seeing all the land marks that were talked about in the move; "Grove St." and "Pearl St." The buildings seem to be in their original form, which adds to the mystique of the place. If you have seen the movie, you really should go see the place that inspired it.

Ahahah yeah its pretty cool to be there. Funny thing is, whenever i go to the City, i got to this one amazing place in China Town and its on Mott Street  Pretty crazy how all that fighting was going on in what is now China Town :D

Also, there's some play it again sports around LI that have a decent amount of gear.

I rather give PIA my business rather than SportsPlus. I didnt know they brought in a new go to SP, but the "usual" guy that was there barely knew anything, and is one terrible sharpener. He was such a lazy A$$-hole. He wouldnt go back downstairs to bring up the size skate i needed, and had no idea how to fit a skate either.

Theres this one really cool asian guy at the PIA in Carle Place that i could talk to forever. I was surprised how much the guy knew, an he even offered me a job when i turn of age. :D They're prices are decent too.

Hey, im going to the Garden this weekend and was wondering a couple things about cosby's.

What should I expect as far as pro stock sticks? I have heard that their inventory is almost ancient.

Where would it be from inside the arena? We are driving up so i probably won't get to the shop until we get to our seats.

Cosby's is outside the garden- you'll need to go before you actually go to the game. They had pro sticks at the team store last year going for $200 or $250 (including Nylander's and Rucinsky's Woodies)- more a collectors item than something to use. I was drooling over a Polarfibre Ozolinsh Dolo, but not only was it exorbitantly expensive, the blade was broken.

Back to Cosby's, you won't find much in terms of sticks in general. Last time I was in there they had some old stuff and a bunch of XXX-Lites marked up like crazy. And this was after the XXXX came out.

they do have a bunch of old pro cooper (and tackla i think) pants tho. Lot's of different colors on those, but I didn't bother to check prices.
