Blades for a tapered shaft

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a tapered blade that will not split at the bottom as it wears down. I currently use the old Vector 8 (yellow one). I bought a bunch on closeout from the monkey but only have 2 left. I used to use the Vector 5. Does CCM still make the Vector 5? Will the Dolomite blade split as it wears down ($$$ option). I am looking for a Right Handed Recchi curve or equivalent. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

FatAndSlow

From my experience, stay away from the Dolo2 HD blades. I had one last 5 ice sessions, and the second one is splitting right at the toe after 6 weeks (on the ice twice a week). Very disappointed in the quality of the new HD blades.

I'll be going with the SE16 blade next, know enough people that have no problems with it.

Split at the bottom, what surface are you using them on? The only blades that ever did that for me were the old reebok ones. The se16 is a solid blade however the durability isnt great, i would suggest trying a vapor xxxx. Pretty stiff and durable.

Do all tapered blades come as a short hozel? I just picked up a synergy elite with a short hozel tapered blade (synthesis blade came with it), and was curious - when it comes to replace the blade (hopefully not soon) do I have to use the short hozel type? I think I would anyways, but wondered if tapered blades come otherwise.

I think I'd likely stick with the SE16 or XXXX blades.

I don't know of any long ones. The lower kickpoint is pretty much the entire point of having a tapered shaft, so they use the short hosel.

Dolomite blades seem to last forever for me. I've heard of some people splitting them, but I've got one that's going strong after a year and had another last several months before I stopped using it and traded it.

I've been using a Dolo HD blade for the last month and haven't had any problems, although I've only been playing once a week in summer league so haven't been too hard on it.

I'll second the dolo blades (07 or 08 not sure which i have). I've owned 3 and never broken one. I have broken two eastons (synergy II, i think) during the same time with less use.

So... after 5 or 6 games, the bottom of the heel (on the backside) has a decent sized chip out of it on my Synthesis blade. Not sure how it happened. It didn't really effect the blade much it seems, as I was still able to play with it without any real problems. In fact, I was able to fire one top shelf after I noticed it.... My dilemma is this: I plan on using the blade as long as possible (as long as it retains it's strenght/playability). I wanted to grab a back up blade in case it breaks on me. I ended up with a marked down synthesis blade (same as the one that came with it) for $40.00. I was looking at other options for blades for my synergy elite shaft, but wow.... first, my favourite LHS did not have many higher end blades (no SE16, XXXX for eg), secondly - I was offered a Warrior tapered blade, but holy mackinaw, the thing was marked at $80.00CDN (showed list $100.00), so I'm assuming I could expect the same pricing on a SE16 or XXXX blade. I saw in another post that someone said the XXXX was a great tapered blade, rigid, and durable. I just don't want to have to be replacing a $40.00 or more blade every 5 or 6 games. Especially considering I got the stick with the blade for $100.00.

Favorite tapered blade : Vapor XXXX - awesome durability, quality, you name it.

- Dolo's are great blades. They're on the market because they've proven that they have stuff to offer =p but I've busted 3 dolos in a few seasons - Kind of disappointing - they all eventually split within a few weeks by the heel or where I receive passes. I'm no noobie at hockey either.. I know how to shoot & my form is right.. Just bad luck with warrior for me :( - now their one piece sticks? that's a different story.

best tapered blade has to be mission prostocks - nothing beats it in feel and durability, i remember someone mentioning the one95 blade is very similar to the missions

(Sadly) my opinion is the ID blades from the old Bauer displays are the best. Since they are tapered I assume they're probably vapor 40 blades.

Wow, that is the exact opposite problem I have. Honestly, stay far away from the SE16 blades. They, at MOST so far this summer, last me about 5 games a blade before the split at the bottom and the toe. The SE16 blades, are nice and light, but they are the least durable blade I've ever used (and it seems that way with all the others on this site that use them as well).

I bought a brand new Synergy SE blade and it started cracking at the heel within a few weeks. Not worth it IMO.

I've been using the same Dolomite blade for a year now and it has a crack on the top from a slash since last December...still works fantastic. It's just a little more flexible than it was new, but it doesn't torque when shooting. Best blade I've ever used for durability, although the feel is off.

I've been using a Dolomite HD blade for the last couple months on and off...it's just fine. The feel is a little better, haven't had any durability problems, in fact it looks brand new still.

I do have a Vapor XXXX blade but I can't get it to fit in my Dolomite shaft at all. It looks a lot like the Dolomite blade though with the 12k, so I'd give that a shot if I were you.

I did have a Mission pro stock blade for a bit, and the feel and durability were great, but it was a bit heavy and the wrong curve for me. I'd love to try another one if I could find a Lindros clone...maybe Bauer will re-make the Vapor X:60 tapered blade as a One95 tapered.

I just can't justify close to $100 ($80 + 13% tax) for a blade..... :( Jarick - you mentioned the XXXX doesn't fit the Dolo shaft, any idea if it would fit a Synergy Elite shaft???

I bought a couple of the Bombardiers in the Mission Pro stock. Pretty darn close to the p88 on my one 90 blade. They have a long hosel for a tapered blade, though.

I'm almost positive it would. All my Dolomite shafts and blades were a bit smaller than everything else.

I always thought those Bombardiers were heel curves, any way you could post up a pic? What's the lie and how open is the face? Greatly appreciated!

Just held them both side by side. They are extremely close in terms of curve and openness/flatness. Keep in mind that I compared the Mission Bombardier Pro Stock (fairly recent purchase from the Monkey) to the p88 One 90. I have heard some rumblings about the p88 pattern being changed slightly. I can't say if it has changed or not since the one 90 blades were out, or if it has changed at all. The few differences that I noticed are that the Bombardier top-to-bottom is a little less tall. The hosel on the bombardier is maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inches longer than the standard blade one90 hosel, in spite of the fact it's tapered. The lie on the Bomberdier may be 1/2 lower. I have an easier time judging this by using them rather than looking at them, so this part may not be accurate. I'm thinking it looks like a 5.5 or 6. I have a hard time with lie 5 sticks and had no problem with the Bombardier the first time using it (other than switching from a Sakic/more open curve).

I actually had to throw some taper over hosel inside the shaft to keep it from rattling around in my tps rubber tapered shaft. Not sure how the fit compares with the Dolo you mentioned, but the bombardier may be on the smaller side (?).

My camera is giving me a hard time. I may edit with a pic or pics later if it decides to play along. Hope this helps.

Fantastic, I have the same problem with 5 lies. I'll have to order one and see how I like it. Thanks for the feedback.

Gonna post a side-by-side photo of the Bombardier and Lindros in a little bit. Got the camera back up. Just have to switch computers and do the photobucket/link thing.

Edit - here goes... hope the link works!

One 90 Lindros on Left, Mission Pro Stock tapered Bombardier on right. Pretty darned close, IMO. I think the Bombardier is a smidge more heely and open...
