Pittsburgh Hockey Shops

Recommended Posts

I'm heading down to Pittsburgh/Grove City to do some outlet shopping with the girlfriend near the end of July.

Anybody in the area recommend some good hockey shops that I could visit while I'm there? I'm looking for some pro stock gloves and deals on sticks mainly. Does the Mellon Arena sport store carry Pens Pro sticks and equipment and are they opened during the weekend?

Pens' Store only carries team merchandise, no pro stock equipment that I know of

If you're going to Grove City area there aren't many shops close. Pittsburgh is another hour(depending on how fast you drive) south. You can skip over to Youngstown(Boardman) OH to the Ice Zone, its about 20 minutes away. They have a junior team program there that you can get some of their gear. As far as shops in the Pittsburgh area, The majority of the pro shops are inside the local rinks....except the local Peranis and a few random shops. As far as pro gear from the Pens, I heard a rumor that the Pens are NOT having the usual end of year equipment sale. Which sucks. They usually have it at the Marriott across from the arena downtown.

Yea, I was thinking of checking out Peranis since there isn't really any close ones in my area.

I'll look up KO Sports!

Thanks for some of the recommendations!

I visited both Perani's and the place in Cannonsburg when I was there for a Pens game in January. both shops had good stuff. even found some ultra-cheap tapered Inno blades for my girlfriend's backup stick. :)

depends what your lookin for. Premier Hockey in Castle Shannon (near mount lebonan and bethel park) has about every stick in the market right now. glove selection is not the greatest, but i have not seen any pro stock gloves in any pittsburgh stores except KO's

KoSports hands down. If you don't see what you're looking for in the room just ask someone that works there, chances are they'll have something to your liking.

Make sure you call KO's ahead of time... I was there Monday to get a pair of Reebok 6k 16" Shins... and they had none... oddly enough Perani's had them... It's usually the other way around as the board has suggested.
