Replacing Vector Pros

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Getting ready to replace my Vector Pros (about 3 yrs old). Thought I'd just move on to the U+ but tried them on today at the store (same size as old skates - 12D) and they were too narrow, store didn't have anything wider in stock. Then for the heck of it tried on a pair of Vapor X-60s (12D) and they felt great except I believe I have to go with a 12.5D in that skate.

Couple of questions.

Are the U+ skates known to fit different than the Vector Pros? Store employee said they had heard nothing about it. I'm considering just ordering a pair in size 12.0E.

Don't Bauer's normally run narrower than CCM?

Has anyone switched over to the X-60s? They felt great when I put them on. Any reviews?

Thanks,

Marc

See if your store will mold the 12D U+ using a fit machine and see what they feel like then before ordering the 12E's

I agree with jimmy. See if the store will heat mould them first and see how you like them. The U+ skates are made to be moulded to your feet not fit perfect right out of the box. In answer to you second question, Bauer skates used to be generally a slimmer skate than CCM but now I believe they are a wider fit, at least the Vapor line because I can wear a "D" skate quite comfortably. In answer to question three, I switched from CCM to Eastons years ago and never looked back. Love their composite skates. I did try the Vapor XXV and found the fit to be satisfactory to my liking but I guess I've been spoiled by the Easton skates because I just didn't find the ankle support as good as with the Eastons. Bauer makes a very nice comfortable skate though and I do like the on ice feel of them. I really can't see too much wrong with them if your considering switching but you may need to contour the blade if your used to the CCM neutral pitch. You might want to try the RBK line as well because the fit would be closer to the old Tacks line however you'll get a wider heel than in the CCM line.

+1 on the molding. CCM's regional rep told me the U+ can be molded "over and over and over", so there's really not much risk to the store.

What width vector's? Was the pitch of the skate a problem?

From a fit perspective the transition from the Vector 10 to the Vapor XXXX was close on the last. As far as pitch and radius are concerned...that doesn't really matter because you can have any skate profiled the way you want. What matters is the fit of the boot.
