Custom Socks

Recommended Posts

I have been looking around for a sock that matches my gear, and just can't find one I like... so, I'm making my own. I wanted to poll a few ideas and see what fabric would be best suited for this. I am looking for something ventilated, like the EDGE material. I plan on sewing sections together as opposed to knitting a whole sock.

Any ideas?

Not really sure on what type of fabric exactly... but if you go with the something like the EDGE socks I say to try to find something a little thicker or somehow double up the material. I've been skating in EDGE socks and if a skate or something scrapes them wrong they can be done for. An EDGE sock that was doubled up would be awesome.

What color(s) is all your stuff that you're trying to match?

I would try an airknit like jerseys are made out of. Ventilated but more durable them mesh.

Pro edge use a wicking knit for the body of the sock and an airknit at the top of the sock, down the back and and the ankle. No clue what retail uses.

I would just use airknit of some sort. What I might even do is order another jersey of the pattern of yours from somebody like AK knit in a decently large size and just use the sleeves as socks. Cut, hem, and sew in some elastic in a loop on the bottom, you're done.

I am matching red/white/royal. Think Canadiens.

I'd go with knit socks. The retail Edge socks are too loose even with sock tape and they don't work well with the velcro jocks either.

It sounds like he's gonna make his own, so he'll be able to make them as tight as he needs.

The senior retail EDGE ones are huge! However, if your under 5'10" (I'm about 5'9"), you can use the junior socks. They fit me perfectly with my 14" Grafs and stay up really well too.

From Texas, go with mesh socks. I prefer them in the summer up here and they are much cooler than edge or any other material.

We had mesh last summer and after about 4-5 games went back to the knit material..The mesh is nice and cool, but does it matter on the rink? I mean, even in July/August people in the stands are wrapped up in blankets etc.. besides the mesh rips too easily and gets loose

It makes a huge difference on the ice. Our rinks tend to be very warm and humid in the summer. As for ripping, my pair of pear sox mesh socks is five years old and I wear them for about six months out of the year and they still look like new.

you can make the socks yourself but there is a company that'll make them for you: http://www.modellinehockeysocks.com/index....ge&Itemid=1

I *think* they'll make them in quantities of 1.

I looked at their website, and I could not find a pattern that matched the Captial's socks. All the custom places I've looked at have one solid color background with stripes, not a top color, then stripes, then bottom color.

If you look at this page, you'll see what some people have done.

Call them, and I'm sure they would be able to help you out.

Besides:

They can do any pro pattern in custom colors, or they can do fully custom stuff. You could probalby just send them the mock up photo you posted here.
