Does a 1/2 size make a difference?

Recommended Posts

This is why it makes all the difference in the world to go custom...especially when it comes to skates. If you already plan to go with an elite level skate...pay the extra money and get a true fit. You will learn a ton about your foot you didn't know.

Case in point...found out I am a C width and my right foot is 1/4" smaller than the left. You will ALMOST never find a skate out of the box that can get you a proper fit...every single foot is different. You may not notice it with shoes, but when you are moving on a piece of steel that is less than 1/8" wide...it makes all the difference in the world.

I disagree, most people will find a fit that works well for them with one brand or another. The funny thing is that the vast majority of non-pros ordering custom skates only bother with visual elements and ignore the fit issues entirely. That said, custom fit is the only way to go for the small percentage of people with serious sizing problems like yours.

Serious question here Chadd about customs.

My left foot has always been bigger then my right. As I am growing more and getting older I am finding that my left foot is almost a half size larger then my right.

How much would I end up paying for a custom skate and how much would it be worth it.

I found out I have the same problem.

I bought a pair of X60 three weeks ago.

I upgraded from Vapor XXX.

I got 7 EE. the fit in my left foot is perfect, but the right foot is a little narrow.

LHS could probably stretch the right boot a bit...but I'll wait a couple of more games to see what happens.

Half size difference as in one foot is a 9 and one is a 9.5? Cost will vary depending on the shop and the brand, but I think you will find it is well worth the cost if your sizing issues are that pronounced.

Thank you and yes my left foot is REALLY close to being a 7.5 and my right is dead on 7. I always get the smaller of the 2 and stretch the left skate as far as I can get it.

Make sure you specify the holder length if you go that route. I would expect most manufacturers to put the same size steel on both skates, but you shouldn't leave anything to chance.

does a 1/2 size difference between feet really make that pronounced of a difference? I ask because I've sized my skates to the larger of my two feet, my left measures 8D and right 7.5EE on a Bauer brannock device. Should I really be looking at customs with that sizing difference?

I think a few people probably mentioned it, but your arch will also not be lined up properly also. You might start to notice pain after half a doze skates.
