Acceptable amount of heel slippage?

Recommended Posts

How much, or little heel slip ( up and down) is acceptable in a good fitting skate? Obviously a lot is bad, but some small amount seems inevitable. I don't think I have ever had a pair of skates that kept my heel firmly on the footbed. When does it become a hindrance to good skating?

Thanks !

I say no heel slippage is acceptable......but thats easy for me to say as mine are pretty locked in most bauer retail skates (though I am all over the place in RBK/CCM heels).

Sounds like you need pretty narrow heels in your boots. Have you tried an "A" in the heel?

None. When you push off with your feet if your foot is moving around the boot than your losing performance immediatly

A is standard width for a heel, unless your skates are E or EE width. AA would be more narrow and it would require a custom order.

I have to say I have never owned a pair of skates that didn't let my heel move up at least just a hair. Not enough to lose contact with the footbed, but not locked firmly with absolutely zero up and down movement.

as discussed multiple times irrespective of the performance loss (which as insignificant as it might be is inevidable with ANY heel slippage) the bigger issue is that it'd lead to Haglunds, and I woundn't personally screw with that!

I haven't been unlucky enough to get Haglunds, knock on wood. In the 20 or so pairs of skates I have owned in my life I have never had a skate in which the bottom of my heels didn't at least slightly lift up, even if it was not enough of a lift for my heels to lose contact with the foot bed.

Just curious to see if most people's feet stay locked in the boot in the exact position they laced them up in. I know that is the ideal, but how many people get that type of fit?

i have the narrowest heel, and am paranoid about heel lifting in my skates because i work in a shop. my heel does not lift at all in the skates i wear, and i couldnt have it any other way. i would love to wear a bauer skate, but i just dont fit it properly. so best thing to do, is what this site recommends. wear what fits, not what looks good, is recommended by other players, etc. i dont beliee you should ever have a skate fit that is not perfect, unless you have extremely odd feet.
