Shin Gaurd Ventilation

Recommended Posts

I have always had a problem with my legs getting to hot and feeling heavy as the game progresses. I have had Easton Z-air Shins for about 10-15 years, they are great all around except. Im wondering if the technology has got much better over time or is it just me and not the shin pad?

I've never had this problem with any shin pads I've owned. What are you wearing under them? Right now im wearing one95 shin pads coming off misson's and reebok 8k's. Never had even the slightest problem, however im sure technology did advance quite a bit.

I don't wear anything, a fair low cut sock also. Ive only owned a couple of pairs my hockey career, but i have played competitive mostly with these. The inner pad is also detachable and not part of the shin pad.

I mean i have got some good use out of these and they are still in really good shape for as long as i have had them, i think i might just trade them in and look to a new pair.

Jofa or Bauers? I have to do some research but what would be most breathable?

Honestly, id go with the jofas. I would have bought jofa's over my bauers if they had the older style ones, the closest things they had were the 9k's and i coudlnt stand the strapping, nothing like the first jofas.

Yeah i have been tossing the idea back and forth about getting Edge socks, kind of wanted to whole team to get them but i dont think they care that much. I had a feeling they made a big deal.

Whats better about the Pro Stock? Durability?

I need white detroit colors so it might not be that hard to come across.

the strapping or the calf pad or both?

Have you taken a look at the Graf G700 IX shin guards?

They got these triangular shaped holes. Its suppose to help dampen the impact when you get hit there since it forces the air to come out through the holes.

Air also passes through in there and helps cool your leg.

This is actually really got me thinking, i like that design.

I wonder if it also just brings air in when you skate.

Check out RBK 2008 4K or 6K. I know exactly what you're talking about and I wear the 4K's for this reason. They have ventilation holes, but also use a 2 "slings" so your shin is not wrapped in the internal padding. I can actually feel the cold air inside the shinguard while wearing them. They also do a great job from a protection stand point. The best part is they are discounted since Reebok has come out with their new line of protective gear.

Good Luck.

BTW - I'm on my second pair. Love em.

Heh, that price is basically within the giant's price in april for the 4Ks.

that said I love mine, those with edge socks and I feel much lighter and cooler than my previously 10 year old shins.

You know what else holes in a pad that takes high impacts does? Breaks. It's not as structurally sound as a full one-piece molded pad.

Good luck in finding Jofa's for a reasonable price. I currently wear 16' RBK 5k shins. They're a bit bulky but work alright for me. I got them for $30..so I'm not complaining. If you do go RBK/Jofa, they do fit differently than Bauer. I used to wear Nike Bauer One30 shins in a 14" and I cannot get my legs into a 14" RBk 5k shin. One thing I'd like for Reebok/Jofa to do is make the upper straps on the 5K longer. I have larger calves so I need the extra length.

Oh thanks for pointing that out. I was about to go with the solid RBK 9K's (i even tried them on in the store) but i think its a better choice to go with the 6K with the vents. I like how they stand your shin off because thats a huge problem also.

Yeah now i feel good about my decision, thanks for the feedback guys.
