Jim Bob

THC and the AHL

Recommended Posts

After watching Rochester Americans training camp today, I'm wondering if the AHL is going to have the same all THC gear rule that the CHL has right now.

Only one player that is expected to make the roster wasn't wearing THC gloves with CCM Pro Tacks being by far the popular choice.

And all the new pants and helmets were CCM.

There were about a 6 to 8 guys using the Reebok OPS, as well.

JimBob, the AHL signed a similar deal to the CHL's. It covers helmets, gloves, pants, sticks. Not every team is covered though, I think it's 26 of the 28 who are participating.

The sticks part will be interesting.

I noticed that a lot of guys had switched away from Easton OPSs that they used last season like Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy. Vanek was using the Reebok OPS and Roy was using a CCM Vector 120 OPS.

Only players with an NHL endorsement deal and a certain number of games played in the NHL can use anything other than THC gear.

I wonder what the games played limit is.

Derek Roy was sporting all Easton gear last season and he was all CCMd up today.

300+ or something like that. He only has 49 games in the NHL and isn't the type of player that would have a deal anyway. He doesn't have a choice, he has to use THC gear. Just like everyone else.

Chadd, Elly is using strictly Easton stuff in Norfolk. He only played 10 games for the Hawks.

He waited all summer for his synergy skates to show up back home, and they never did until he left . Go Easton.

Is Norfolk part of the agreement? Also I believe it is if a player is under contract to a brand OR X number of games played.
