Choosing new holders for Grafs

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Graf 735s that I've come to really enjoy wearing, however they have t-blades on them, I've grown tired of t-blades and was looking at replacing the holder. I've heard good things about Tuuk LS2s, but I was wondering if they would be appropriate for the boot. Grafs have a more forward pitch, but I'm not sure if that comes from the boot or the holder. I've also heard that the LS2s have a forward pitch vs. the LSs, so if the pitch is on the boot and I get the LS2s would this combination be "too" pitched?

Thanks,

RATM

I had Cobras on my first pair. Second pair I took the Cobras off before even skating in them. Yes, the pitch was very forward on the Cobras and was much more neutral with the Tuuks.

Thanks, in that case I'll go for the Cobras.

The Tuuks are highly regarded, and if you're already putting new holders on you can always throw some heel lifts in the back to give you the forward pitch you're looking for.

you beat me to it. I was going to say trythe ls2's and a set of lifts. should be close to cobra holders. also depends somewhat on radius and profiling too. how pitched are the t-blades though? never tried them.

After a few months in my 735's I much prefer the forward pitch on my Cobras as opposed to the pitch I had on my Vapor XXII's LS2 holders. I find I'm more agile and react quicker on my skates now. I don't think I'd want to go back to the LS2's unless a heel lift could give me the same pitch as I have with the Cobras.

can anyone tell me which driver is appropriate for the screws on the 3000 holder. i cant seem to peg the width of the flathead, so i'm hoping for a number on the torx portion.

I've often seen on the forums that the Graf boots are also forward pitched, but is it pitched enough that I should use a Custom+ on a 735 to closest replicate the neutral pitch of the LS2 on a Bauer Supreme?

I'd consider Mission Pitch 3 holders as well but who knows how hard it might be to get replacement blades in a few years.

Yeah if you go with Custom+ with a heel lift it should be close to LS2.

My 2 cents..I went from Easton with heel lifts and bauer 8090's with lifts to a pair of custom Grafs with LS2 minus the lifts. Felt exactly the same to what I had as far as pitch.

I find that the t-blades are pitched a bit less than the Cobras, but then again I haven't used the Cobras since my last pair of 735s (about a year ago) so it's hard to say, although I remember liking them more. I do like the reviews of the LS2s, but if I were to get lifts how big would they have to be? I know it's kind of a specific question, but even a ballpark is better than nothing.

hey guys. sorry to bring up an old topic

just a quick question

so i took my grafs 703 size 6.5R to the local pro shop to have the cobra's replaced with ls2's

they had ordered a size 263 ls2 holder and i was just wondering if that would be the right size, as this usually goes on a 7 bauer

second question was, i find cobras i am too far forward and tuuk ls2 i am too on my heels and always have the urge to jump and skate through my toes...i was thinking of trying them without heel lifts first to see how they feel and then see if i want heel lifts or not.

if i do get heel lifts put in after (i was told it would only be $20) what size heel lifts should i get...i want to be in between a cobra holder and a tuuk holder.

thanks everyone.

Compare the length of the cobras that are on your grafs, what is the length on them? Either lifts or profiling your skates for a more toe down stance would accomplish your goal.

something like 2-3mm is what i've heard.

It depends on the amount of lift required.

they were stock cobra's so i believe the should be a 254...crap...263 might be too big then (am getting the size off the hockey monkey website). i might have to call them tommorrow to double check if all is well...

maybe i will try them without the lifts and then see how it goes and if i want 2 mm or 3 mm.

thanks chadd.

I have xxx's with a LS2 and 3mm lift. Would the pitch be the same with Grafs, no lifts and LS2s.

I could be wrong as it has been a while since I had to do it, but I believe a 3mm on the back with LS2 would give you a similar pitch to the cobra.

I have Graf 707's on Tuuk Custom+ holders and blades and I love them. I have heel lifts that are not quite as pitched as the Cobra holders.

The set up of boot and blade has the best combo of comfort, ankle flexion and "feel" for the ice I've had in a skate.

so if i like the pitch on my vapor XXXXs i should could tukks put on the grafs i may be getting so im not on my toes?

That's what I did, and it helped, but I'm still a bit too far forward pitched for my liking. I think perhaps there some pitch associated with the boot as well as the Cobra holder; going with an LS2 setup was a step in the right direction, but I wish I'd have gone with the custom+, and it would have been close to perfect.

But after re-drilling for the mismounted Cobra original holders, and then new holes for the LS2's, I don't want add even more for a custom+ pattern. Maybe I'll just try a new profile.
