Cracked holder

Recommended Posts

So as i was packing my bag today, I picked up my skates, One95s and realized theres a chunk of my holder missing. just wondering if it'd be safe to skate on.

Also, I have a pair of LS2 holders on my old skates and am wondering if the 2.1 steel will fit in them as they are the red LS2 and the one95s have the blue ones.

heres a picture of the holder

those are fine dude. it wont make a difference to skate on. if its cracked then change it, otherwise you're good to go. my holders look like that anyways and nothings happened to them.

Agreed. Those should be fine.

Having said that, what the hell did you do? I've never seen that big of a chunk missing...

As long as the blade doesn't move in the holder their fine but keep an eye on them, if a crack starts to develop have the holder replaced immediately, for safety sake.

I absolutely disagree with everyone else. That is a sizable chunk taken out of a load bearing portion of the holder, the last thing you want is to be taking a turn then having your feet go under from you.

Take it back to your shop, if it was purchased less than a year ago, it's warrantied, if not get them replaced anyway. Chances are they will warrenty them because that doesn't look to be a 'through use' break - it's too clean of a cut. Get it checked out

That isnt a real load bearing spot. It is in between the two "towers" attached to the boot. These are the major load bearing areas. The center area between the two, where this chuck is missing, is there to keep the blade straight. I do not believe this missing chunk poses any problems.

Acttually, not much at all. I have a pair of back-up s15's, and the entire middle part of the holder has broken through. If it has any weight bearing responsibilities, it is very little. It may spread some weight, but with the damage to OP's holder, there shouldnt be an issue.

But we should defer to the experts on the board.
