I know that he would get it for free from a team. However, looking at his earnings, he probably wouldn't care if he did have to buy it.

Also, the joke doesn't work at all unless they have a reputation as a diva. For many professional athletes it works. For Shanahan in a thread where he's being praised as a really nice guy, it doesn't work nearly as well.

Accept that you didn't get the joke, and move on. He was obviously being sarcastic.

BTW, up in Canada they are taping a show Dancing with Hockey Stars or some such title. Look story short, we had to fit Ron Duguay in figure skates for this show. I was not in the shop that day but I heard he wanted nothing to do with wearing figure skates. However, he had no choice. Then I heard he destroyed the first pair in a week of taping the show. He is on his second pair now.

A similar situation happened at my school, his brother's (commentator for the toronto rock) son goes to my school and nobody believed him until once his dad and his uncle (brenden) showed up to one of his high school hockey games, it was pretty cool, although i didn't sell him tape :(
