Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 2, 2004 There was no such thing as a closer back then either. If the pitcher was tired, he generally stayed in the game and tried to gut it out. Now they bring in a lefty to face a lefty and batters can easily face three different pitchers in a game.Had the coaches in Seattle not tried to change his stance to improve his power he would have easily broken the record in the same number of games. I figure someone has to throw out some of the other arguements. It's just disappointing that it didn't get anywhere near the fanfare that other records have had.
