dontdumpdangle 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 All of the power from the hit was delivered to fanellis head as that looked to me to have been the only point of contact between the two during the hit. It was unfortunate but it happened. It wasn't a dirty hit, if he gets more of fanelli in the hit nothing happens and the game goes on.
furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Liambas didn't make contact with his head...he hit him square on the back of his left shoulder. And Darkstar I couldn't agree more over guys being a-holes on the ice and nice guys off.
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 So Liambas is supposed to know, through the magical ESP that all hockey players have, than Fanelli isn't smart enough to properly secure his helmet strap? Maybe it is "victim blaming," but end of the day the guy chose a fashion statement over his own safety. We can play the "what if" game all day. I think it is safe to say that with the force of the hit, helmet on perfect or not, Fanelli would have been knocked into next week. Would the injury have been as severe? Probably not, but his head still would have been bounced very hard off the glass and he would not have been getting up anytime soon.
stock07 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Honestly, I feel bad for both sides of this hit....They are both after all just young men with hopefully a long life ahead of them with or without hockey and hopefully this incident wont define either of them for the rest of their lives.....I really hope Fanelli can fully recover and have a succesful life with or without hockey and that Liambas can get through all the wrath and guilt that is surely coming down on him.... hockeyfreak7 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Who would you rather be right now, at this moment, Fanelli or Liambas?Fanelli is still unlucky, Liambas is still stupid.hey i was very clear about what i said.i never said fanelli wasnt unlucky.i was just saying that liambas shouldnt be demonized because fanelli's skull was fractured. furlanitalia 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 Any word on long/short term side effects (besides concussion). More importantly, can he resume play at some point?

Take a look at any of the other hits of his posted on youtube. Each hit is a full speed charge and a high hit. It was really just a matter of time before he really hurt someone. tonguesOUT4life 17 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 the guys in new york with the brief cases and tailored suits should just call fighting and hitting out of the game and turn it more into a globettrotter type of game. blah. hits are part of hockey and we have been taught how to avoid them all our lives.. sometimes mistakes happen at split seconds that might cost us our lives or careers. like fanelli turns away from a dangerous situation. the game is way too fast theese days and a bad decision could kill you in a split second. we all risk our lives and bodies on that ice day in day out.. let it be beer league or just pick up or even practice with your local junior team. ill just close my eyes and say a silent prayer before i step on the ice each time because i could use the .001 percentage of luck i can get from god (if i can get it) coz i dont go to church every sunday but ill ask him to watch over me. its just to say we all know and accept the concequences of the game we should all be aware of not making mistakes in risky situations. i hope fanelli a speedy recovery and i hope liambas does a 360 change on his playing style. while supsended why not work on skill set and become a better player then a 4th line grinder? yeah u can hit boy and we all know you are a tough guy that could be like a cherry on top of your game. Officer Dangle 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2009 From that angle it looks like Liambas' shoulder is making contact with Fanelli's head. It looks to me like Liambas had this guy on railroad tracks from the moment he stepped over the blue line, and when Fanelli put himself in a vulnerable position Liambas couldn't react in time, or in this case, didn't even try to. It's clearly a dirty, unnecessary hit. Certainly worthy of a suspension injury or not, but it's without a doubt the injury affected the length of the suspension. The OHL is making an example out of Liambas, hopefully they will begin to enforce EVERY boarding and charging call, and not the ones that result in injury...Just my $0.02. PWBIII 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 Just an update if anyone still cares at all. We just signed Liambas here (Bloomington -IHL). Hasn't played yet but should next week. He actually finished last season with us and was going to re sign but you only get so long to play juniors. Haven't brought up the hit or anything. I'm sure he gets asked about it enough. He is a solid dude though.
