Elbow Pads

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Continuing my trend towards completely replacing all of my equipment I was wondering what you guys had to say about elbow pads. Im looking for protection, durability, and above all comfort. The elbow pads I have had in the past slid down my arm and were always bothering me. I need something I can put on and not notice the rest of the game. Im not looking to spend more than $40. I will spend $50 but only if the situation necessitates it (IE is FAR better than anything I could spend $40 on).

I have already decided on what shin pads I'm getting. So you wont have to look forward to a post on that :D

Again Thanks for the help.

I picked up a pair of Jofa 5044s (I think I remember hearing that the 50xx line are prostock? Maybe someone could answer that..) and I love them. THey were cheap too, $50.

What about the Mission Matrix elbow pad's? I have heard the shin pads are great but the elbow pads are lacking. Any other opinions on them?

I have a pair of the 8025s and they work great for me. The bicep protectors on my shouldder pads come down to my elbows anyway so the lack of bicep protection on the elbow pad doesn't bother me. Plus, they're only $25 or so.

I have the matrix elbow pads, and I must say I don't know what all the fuss is about. I barley notice them, and I don't have a single problem with them falling off. I also got them for like $15 on closeout, so that was a nice bonus. However, If you want to spend a little more, the nike v10's are awesome, would have gotten them if i didn't get such a deal on the matrix pads.

I've had my Jofa 3505's for the past few years and they've been pretty good. They fit very well without slipping around. That particular model's likely discontinued now, but my vote's for Jofa.

The pair I had slid all over, horrible pads.

Edit- I now use Jofa 8077s, they're a bit big (width wise, I'm skinny as hell) but don't slide at all.

I've been using Jofa elbow pads and shin guards for quite a while now. It would take something pretty remarkable to even get me to consider switching to another brand. 1800faceoff has the 8044's on sale for $35.99 which I'd recommend. I used the 5044's (older model of 8044's) for a short time before moving back to my old 1444's (see below). I just wasn't playing enough at the time to break in a new pair.

I wouldn't give these up for a brand spanking new pair of anything else. I even have a practically new pair of the same thing and still can't bring myself to switch. Lucky for you guys this isn't a scratch and sniff picture.

Hearing you guys speak so highly of Jofa protective equipment has me questioning my choice of shin gaurds. I was going to get the Mission Matrix shin gaurds since they are cheap and have heard nothing bad about them. Should I consider something else?

I hate Jofa shin guards. The better ones are too damn big and the cheap ones are kinda "cheap".

I checked out the Jofa shinguards a while back and didn't like how wide they were (I'm 5'8" and thin). I prefer light, thin shinguards that don't interfere with my skating. I'm using some mid-range Itechs that I'm content with.

This is where it would be nice to have a LHS, but alas it is Iowa and we couldn't possibly have anything like that. Maybe then I could try stuff on and see which I like best.

I'm in the minority on this one though.

I bought some and they were hugely uncomfortable on me. So you're not the only one that doesn't like them.

i agree that if you don't need the upper arm protection, the jofa 8025's are the way to go. i've been wearing them for about two years and i'm very pleased with them. great movement, they never slide down my arm, good protection, and best of all, you can get them for around $24 bucks.

as far as jofa shin pads, i've been using the 8090s for about the same time as the elbows and i don't have a problem with them. i picked them up right after my knee surgury because i got all paranoid about getting hurt again. very good protection and they move pretty good for me. not that bulky.

I would recommend the Nike V line. Just got my V-Forces in the mail an hour ago. Very comfy and awesomely light.

If you decide to go with Jofa elbows however, try 1800faceoff.com, they have the top of the line Jofas for under 40 bucks (8035 for 25, 8044 for 36 and 8066 for 40).

I have the Bauer 5000 elbow pads, excellent protection but are kinda heavy and some people consider them to be too long. Also gotta agree with shark and say that the Nike's are nice.
