Bauer Flexlite 4.0 vs 3.0

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i searched and could not find the info needed.

I am interested in getting some new skates and i was considering the Flexlites.

I wear a 5.5ee skate and in junior sizes the 4.0 costs around $230, and the 3.0 cost only $90.

What are the main differences in these skates seeing as they have a HUGE price difference.

Is the 3.0 a good skate?

Thanks for your help

Looking at the specs. . .

4.0 has a thicker tongue, a composite outsole, and LS2's. . . its going to be a stiffer skate with better holders and steel.

I've owned the 3.0's now for about 4 months and have found them to be the best skates for me. They definitely are a softer boot. I'm purely a once a week rec league player and this is definitely a good skate for my level. The thing that drew me to them is the fact that they have a lot of volume. I got terrible lace bite on my previous skates which were NB One 55 size 6 1/2 EE and also had pain on the outside of my foot. The 3.0's have made break in very easy, as the padding is quite soft on the inside. I find myself having to tighten up the skates a few times during the games because the padding seems to pack out and i start to feel a little sloppy while skating. All in all these skates have made playing a lot more pleasurable as I'm not in agony and can concentrate on just playing and having fun.

Hope this helps.

I may have been a little too aggressive on getting a tight fit with the One 55's, so when I got the 3.0's i went up a half size to a 7 and got a D width. Believe it or not, this has been perfect. I probably should have done a 7 EE on the One 55's but I still think I would have issues with lace bite and lack of depth with those skates.

If you can, try on a pair. They really are comfortable.

I tried the 3.0 and it was way to flexible/soft for me, and I'm not even a big guy at 155lbs. When I put sideways pressure on them, they bent like crazy, so I can only imagine how soft they might get over time. That store doesn't carry the 4.0 but they still had some older Flexlite 18 in my size which I believe is almost identical to the 4.0. The 18 was 10 times stiffer than the 3.0. Not the stiffest skate, but more than stiff enough for me, so I ended up buying those.

Larry I have been looking for the 4.0 , where in Montreal did you find the 3.0 and did they tell you why they do not have the 4.0 in stock ?

thanks

This is at A.Roy Sports at 12007 Notre-Dame. He said the 4.0 were not enough in demand to carry them, but he could order them for you. This might be better than ordering them yourself online because if there is a problem you could bring it back to the store and let them deal with the hassle. And they could bake them, etc.

The 3.0 and the 18 fit very similarly so I'm guessing the 4.0 would be similar. You could try the 3.0 for size and have them order the 4.0 but even I'm not crazy about not trying on the actual skates I'm buying. Since I took the Flexlite 18, I didn't bother asking him about any details like what happens if you try the 4.0 skates that he ordered for you and they don't fit right.

Apparently the FL4.0 replaces the FL18 and are $100 more on the A.Roy website. Since the specs are very similar, I figured I'd go with the FL18 even though I prefer the more traditional look of the 4.0.

*resurrects from the dead*

Does anyone know how the flexlite 16's compare to the 3.0's? They are both the same price point (found a place selling them) and both have the same holders, I'm just wondering if the 16's were a stiffer/more protective boot, and possibly were made to be bakad.

Not sure that stiffness and Flexlite should ever go together :p

Yes they are pretty bendable.

However, I've not been hurt by being hit with the puck like I did in XXXX's and G70's.

Maybe I've just been lucky.
