Eagle X88 pants?

Recommended Posts

these pants have piqued my interest as i'm currently looking for a pair of pants that have a bit more tailbone protection after a good fall on my ass still has me hurting a bit 2 weeks later. thought the fuel 110's i bought over the summer would be more than enough...my ass says i was wrong. loved the fit and mobility of them though.

anyways, having looked through various threads, it seems that some are hinting that the x88's are basically the same pant as canadian made tackla 9000. is there any truth to this? if not, anyone know how these compare to the 9000's?

Double belts, different cut on the upper hip pads, stock zippers...

At the very least it has different features, though the fit/protection may be similar.

Since Vaughn Canada makes both, you might want to lob them a call for the 100% correct answer.

i actually did call eagle, obviously wouldn't give me a straight answer ;)

I just got these pants in the mail earlier in the week, and they're very similar to my Tackla 5000's from about 10 years ago. They appear to be lighter, have better stitching, and the back looks to have a lot of protection coming from an upper section of additional padding.

I skate for the first time with these pads coming up on Sunday. If you're still interested, I'll post something as a follow-up with my take on them. Also, I can snap some pictures at a later time if that will help.

They look like rebranded Tackla 951's to me.

Double belts, same leg stripes, same tag on the stomach pad, Canadian flag logo in the same spot. The upper kidney protection looks like it's a little smaller on the X88's though. Might just be the angle of the pictures?

Nah, the X-88 are more protective than Tckla 951

They are less bulky than Tackla 5000. And you're right - the X-88 pant is lighter. I'd recommend them. Even , though IMO nothing beats pro stock RBK 520

RBK520 just has so much padding across the front......That's what I like about the 5000 series, the Easton Pro Pant, The hustler.....nothing but a little belly pad. The 520 hip pads have all the foam that wraps around.

Having owned 520s, I still prefer my tacklas. I think the 520s are fantastic pants, it's just a preference thing.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back with my first impressions. I skated on Sunday night, and was very pleased with my new pants. They seem to be a bit tighter fitting than my older Tacklas, which were the same size (Size 50), which I actually liked. I was able to tighten both belts to my liking, and the pants felt like they moved with my stride very well. I didn't take any pucks, sticks, or hits to my lower torso, so I can't comment on the padding, but they seem like they would be protective. The pants felt lighter than my older Tacklas, and stayed light and dry throughout the game.

Overall, I liked the pants very well. If anyone has any other questions, or any specific questions, please let me know.

thanks for the quick review. the mobility sounds like it's more than adequate for my needs, i'm kinda curious about the tailbone padding though.

I actually also own a pair of pro stock Tackla 9000 Air. ANd sure love them too. To make them a bit lighter switched the kidney and tailbone protection from a pair of color matching pro Coopers. The original pro stock Tackla Air 9000 kidney and tail thing is like a tank. Just wanted them be a bit lighter.

Seems to have the x88 girlde and x72 pants Maybe give them a call and see if there is anyone in house that can give you a review?

These are lighter. Might be closer to the Tackla 951. Orient made though unlike Canada made X-88

I realize this is a massively old post, but I just picked up the Eagle x88 pants, and love them. The fact that they were on sale for $89 didn't hurt either.

I have about 6-7 games in them so far. They are more form fitting than the TPS pants I was wearing but I suppose I can say that they move really well because honestly, I don't notice them.

The protection seems really good as well and the stiching and finishing are first rate, what you would hope to see in hockey gear which is made in Canada.

Couldn't be happier, especially at that price!

I drove 2 hours to try on a pair (also tried the X95). Both are awesome pants. Really well made, tons of protection. They didn't quite fit me properly which I was bummed. If they fit you I say go for it!!!

On another note - there are many on the board who have said that the Eagle's fit like Tackla because Vaughn took them over. Not true at all!!! The Eagle's thigh's a typical fit. Hips are a tad roomier and the butt is "roomy" like other Eurofit pants but not the the thigh.
