New Shin guards

Recommended Posts

I had a pair of 15 yr old CCM SG400 shins that I had to retire due to a crack. Never had any knee issues with them. I picked up some One90's and used them about 20 times and since they have that donut opening knee pad area and then the air space my knee never feels as comfortable and protected as my old CCM's. I've gotten nice red bruises on my knee cap area at least 5 times with these and not once with my old ones. Can anyone recommend a shin guard that has decent protection and with a fit more like my ancient CCM's?

Any of the RBK (9k, 8k, 7k, 5k) should do just fine.

I agree. I have some 9K's and they're superb in terms of protection. I've taken more than one slap shot to the knee with no ill effects. They also have some decent wrap around calf protection. Some may say they're a bit too protective and bulky but when you play with idiots who take slap shots from the point into traffic it's not a bad thing IMO.

lol. story of my life.

except I've had quality issues with rbk shins (7k) and the jofas before them. Easton stealth 777 (i think) is what I've been using for the past few seasons and up til now they've held up great. the dimpled plastic makes it hard to know where the puck is going to redirect to, though.

I tried on a RBK 6k and a Warrior Hitman today. The 6K had floating like straps the shin rests against. A pic of them on hockeygiant doesn't show that though. Do all the RBK series, 6K/8K/10K, have this or not. And anyone know the comfort/durability of the Warrior shinguards?

With the 6k you can get the "Fitlite" series, which is what you tried on. This is what i picked up because it helps keep me shins cooled which was a major issue with me, having my whole shin pressed up against the shin pad was causing too much heat. They also come with large vents in the front to improve air flow. 5-10k have the "Kinetic" series also which is the standard fit, If cooling is not an issue i would recommend going with any of the higher end RBK because they fit and protect really well. If i didn't get the 6k fitlites i would of went with the 9k for not that much more.

Only just used my Hustler shins this past sunday for the first time so as far as durability I can't say but the comfort was great and the protection definitely there, as I took several good shots off of them in the short time I played. The straps work as advertised as well, you can really feel the guards holding close to your leg and I only use tape under the knee.
