Australian National Junior team wins GOLD

Recommended Posts

Whilst we are talking about the Canada VS USA game, the Aussie lads have also won their respective tourney.

From the icehockeyvictoria.org.au website...

GOLD GOLD GOLD.

In true Aussie style, the Australian National Junior team has won the Gold medal in Istanbul Turkey by beating Iceland 3 -1 to claim the Div III Under 20 World Championship.

The team made it into the final by beating Korea 4 – 3, the winning goal in sudden death Overtime!

Other wins include their second game of the World Championships beating last year's Gold Medal winners New Zealand 5 -1 and a frist up win over Bulgaria 11 – 1.

Well done boys (especially the Vic lads in the team) enjoy the moment.

Can I go to Australia for Ice Hockey Practice? :) Seriously, where should I go to play if I were to visit Australia. Planning to go this year.

Melbourne... heard the new facility is really good. I got to see it before it opened and it was pretty impressive.

Ice in Perth is reputed to be a little choppy...

The rink was the Istanbul Arena in Istanbul, not Constantinople.;)

The rinks in Melbourne are about to get really good with the Docklands opening in a month or so.

However; at the current time the rinks in Sydney are best, with Newcastle (just outside Sydney) toping the list for size and ice quality.

Kakos: We won't be in the Olympics in my lifetime I can assure you. Maybe when I am old and crusty we will have a shoot, but we won't make it for a long time yet, if ever again.

I really need to get myself a Singapore IHF jersey; next to the Latvian liquor-disposal unit, they're my favourite international underdogs.

Ha that's awesome... Know a guy who played on that team last year. Surprisingly it is pretty legit. He said he'd play Junior A Tier III if he played in the USA. I realize not that high of a league, but a lot higher than alot of us have gotten to. That's sweet. Never been to Australia, only know one guy from there, but always want them to do well.

Some of the young guys (18-20 yo) go over to Canada, US and Czech to play really high level hockey. Generally A or the odd AA junior level. We have an odd guy in college as well but nothing too high once again. Allot of kids now are sacrificing their summers to goto boarding schools in North America and get out on the ice allot. They come back with great travel memories and an even larger bag of tricks on the ice.

We are also being visited this year by a travelling junior A team from Kelowna. They come down every two years and the last time they came and played our state team in Victoria it was a great game to watch. Their skill and strength was amazing. Great bunch of kids as well.

I'm surprised they were able to do it without Davey Upton! I know the Queensland boys have been working pretty hard over the past year or so. Shit, I miss it in the Coast...
