Mouthguard for Communicating

Recommended Posts

Speaking of losing them.

Don't get clear. When they fall on the ice they're tough to find (especially when the zamboni is starting it's run!).

I have a Pro-Tekt, which is similar to the Gladiator, and I love it - no problems communicating and plenty of protection.

That's what I have and when I actually use it, it works well.

This is exactly what I have:

SAFEguard

I have a Pro-form, which is custom-made from orthodontist. With no strap version, i don't even notice it, breathing and talking are fine. I used to have one with a strap, which i didn't care for.

you could take a regular cheap 99 cent mouth piece and mold it tightly to your teeth then cut it down a bit sooo that it does not cover to much of your gums then use a lighter and heat up the edges so that there are no sharp edges and you should be good. that's what I do and it seems to work

I have tried both the badbreed Tapout branded gumshields.

Badbredd molded well and 'clicked' into place. The Tapout ones are complete junk, dont boil well, and fit horribly.

i got a custom fit mouth guard from my dentist and at the saem time had to get a "night guard" for me grinding my teeth at night. And found that the night guard has such a better a more comfortable fit than the custom sports mouth guard.

I cant patrick kane the night guard or mouth guard since once in cannot take it off uncless i use my hands.

ive been using the night guard for 3 years now and is the best lol

I have a dentist-fitted mouthguard, and love it. No problems talking, except a slight lisp. I once forgot to take it out after a game, and only noticed it after I had showered.

REALLY wish I would have seen this before I bought a tapout mouthguard from Hockeymonkey. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

I just bought a Shock Doctor gel max and for a boil-n-bite it fits great and stays put. Very little difficulty communicating with it. So far I am rather impressed for a $9 boil-n-bite.

Custom fit for me from the Ortho. It can't fall out. Plus I can talk with it on the ice. I can't remember the brand.

Edit: The company is PlaySafe.

Got my Tapout mouthguard the other day, surprised that the $14 mouthguard, which I thought was a tad expensive, was actually a set of two mouthguards, takes some of the sting out of it. Unlike the poster a few posts above, I thought it boiled very well, and fits great. I can speak pretty well with it and it clicks in and stays there pretty well. Best mouthguard I've ever had, and in the past three or four years I've used about 6 of them.

How are they for breathing?

Lol if you thought $14 was expensive, then your head would explode if I told you what I spent on my custom guard.

I've considerred the custom route but I always forget to ask the dentist. For a custom fitted mouthguard made with kevlar or whatever is inside it, I would spend probably up to $100, but for a boil and bite, $14 was a stretch.

I use a ProForm. They are a custom dentist made guard that costs $10 (in central Iowa). Won't fall out or impair your talking at all. We got them free when I played HS and I have been going back every year since then. They cost less than some of the boil and bites, and like CopperTop said, you don't even realize they are there.
