I need a curve that shoots it HIGH

Recommended Posts

Who, me?

I probably could but to be honest, there are far better resources than me for shooting a puck. Once a month, I have a video session with the team I coach to go over fundamentals and when we do shooting fundamentals, I just dig into some video's I have purchased over the years or even to youtube video's of NHL players etc.

Be sure to show them players transferring their weight from back leg to front leg though, not shooting off their inside leg. This is the biggest area in trying to correct kids.

Sure, Ovechkin looks great shooting off his inside foot with his outside leg up in the air. He's also 235 pounds and can power through that.

Someone that weighs 80 to 150 pounds needs every bit of weight transfer that they can get.

Holy jesus i know exactly what your talking about when I first started ice I just thought in my head what kind of fools play this game. All the other stuff carried over great except skating forward i could skate 10x better backwards on ice the first day than forward it was a joke

I know what you mean. Played roller my whole life as a goalie. Switched to ice skating out and it was like another game. Been doing ice for about 2 months 1 - 2 times a week and I'm barely at the point where I don't feel like I'm struggling with my edges.

OP... get a cheap wood stick and start shooting some pucks in your backyard or garage. That's how I learned to shoot when I was younger. Just do it over and over.

Whoever has trouble shooting it up high, post a video, you'll probably get some better info than "work on your shot".

Yeah it's mostly about the shooter. Me as a kid couldn't lift the puck for my life (at will), when I would flick it like a foot into the air I'd be so proud but my dad would be like "WTF was that?".

Anyways though, it's something you'll definitely learn over time, a Sakic/Draper curve may help, but you don't want to be dependant on a curve your whole life do you?

I can now lift the puck almost vertically into the net using a PM9. and I'm sure if I had a Sakic like 75% of my shots would fly wayyy over the net at first.

So yeah, shooting a ball doesn't really help either since those are so easy to lift, it's kind of epic when I switch from a PM9 for ice to a Sakic-esque curve for street hockey and we use a tennis ball, whenever I miss the net aiming for the top corner the ball flies legitimately over my neighbor's house and lands in someone's backyard 2 doors down.

We play hardcore street hockey. B)

It's not the wand it's the magician".

Seriously, you can't afford a stick time instructor? How much do your sticks cost? I bet you can find a coach that will do a clinic for you for $50 an hour.

With your shot try and follow through don't stop moving the stick when the puck comes off of it, you have to point to where you want it to go.

Think of it this way you can control the puck it doesn't control you, point it to where you want it go. That mindset really helped me when I was learning to shoot top shelf.

VERY good advice. Reach and point toward the target with your blade, try to get it as far in front of you on the follow through as you can. Also, more blade contact means a more accurate and powerful shot, just something to consider.
