difference in bauer xxxx and x-40

Recommended Posts

The XXXX is a top end stick, the X:40 is a price point stick.

Go for the XXXX.

Ill copy what Jeff said but change two words:

The XXXX is a top end SKATE, the X:40 is a price point SKATE.

Go for the XXXX.

Then get the 40s (xxxx). The x40 is basically like the vapor25 (xxv).

One is better than the other, common sense no-brainer if you can get top end something for a price point price.

XXXX = 40

If the X infront of the :# is supposed to follow regular roman numeral rules, then that would mean the number is smaller than the number after the colon by 10.

In this case:

XXXX = 40

X:40 = 30

But they really fudged up the roman numerals they had going with the XXXX so I really have no idea what they were aiming for with the X:# series.

But you'd think X:60 = 50 and therefore you wouldn't skip a beat jumping from 40 to 60 as it seems right now.

Maybe that didn't make sense, but yeah the XXXX's are a lot better than X:40s, comparable to the X:50/60s IMO.

Unless I'm mistaken, the x-40 is supposed to be said as "ten forty".

lol while they're both Vapours, their lines are different. It's X:40 not ten forty, i dunno where you got that from

And the X:40 is not equivalent to the XXX, the XXX was a topline stick a few seasons back and is a different line than the XXXX. The X:40 could be compared to the XXV, while the X:50 is between the XXV and the XXXX

They did. They replaced their old system that was getting ungainly with a new one.

Would you rather have XXXV, XXXXX, and XXXXXX or the new system of X:40, X:50, X:60?

In the new system, the X isn't supposed to represent a number, just the line of the equipment. The number is the numeric designation.

Bauer just finally figured out what the rest of the world did hundreds of years ago, Arabic numerals are far easier to work with than Roman numerals. :D

That's true. Though if they kept with roman numerals and didn't stick with Xs for the cool factor, we would be treated to the XL, L, and LX. Think of how great that would have looked.

I think they should keep the whole X thing with the vapors, the vapor xxx had the whole porno thing going :P and the xxxx looked like a DNA string, the x:60 it's ok but not great since I don't like models that just have a number to represent them but hey they still kept the x and vapor x:60 is way better than vapor 60

I never had the XXXX, but I did skate in XXV for a while. Just got a pair of x40 and while the fit great, nice and stiff, I feel every shot in them, where my XXV felt like they were a much better protection. The x40s are going to calssified, great skate, very light, just don't try to block a shot with it.

over time they'll get less stiff and 'broken in' but whether it gets to a point of you calling it 'better' will be personal preference. They still may end up too stiff, esp. if your used to (and liked) your 20yr old Tacks.

but a very nice skate to get!!

the reason i bought them and put the super tacks on the shelf is because my foot has changed......i haven't played hockey for the last 18 years (job, marriage, kids) when i put the old skates on they hurt my feet, they were to narrow
