I heard he does this as a superstitious act against the team he is playing against - apparently he wrote PHI on his stick against Philly earlier this year.

For a long, long time he has kept his game sticks. This is probably just the latest method of tracking them for him.

i said this in the gear sighting thread as well but as another poster said, he does keep every stick and he does use a new stick for every game he plays. He writes down the name of the team on the top of the knob always as well as the date somewhere else. THe devils talked about it earlier this year, i think chico. it doesnt really have to do with a big game, just that particular game.

Maybe this superstition should end for Marty soon. He got his ass kicked in Philly twice before the olympic break, with "phi" on his stick. Annnnnd well, we all know what happened when he faced the US. Maybe he should consider "AARP" or "SSI"
