Shoulder Pad Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I did a search but couldn't find anything specific about my problem.

My current shoulder pads are an older pair of Easton Ultra Lites. They're big, bulky and for someone like me who plays non-contact men's hockey — they're too much. I'm looking for something with a much lower profile, much less bulkiness and will allow more range of movement.

Are there any pads out there that provide a low profile look/fit?

I was looking into the white Sherwood 5030's on IceWarehouse but I really can never tell without trying something on — seeing as I live in South Florida, LHS isn't an option :(

Please help! Thx!

Sherwood 5030's or the Farrell pads.

Both have been covered extensively, as this topic in general.

Edit: and theres got to be a LHS somewhere, Miami?

Thanks, I couldn't find the thread for pads in particular — do you recall the thread title?

Miami is an hour or so away from me and the few shops that used to be around here went out of business. Theres really only the Pro Shops at the 3 rinks in my area but their selection is very limited.

I just called Incredible Ice (Panthers training facility) and they said Easton Synergy ST6's would suit my needs. I'm prob gonna go in there tomorrow but it seems everytime I go into that store they clerks are always worried about what time their lunch break is rather than helping customers...(theres a boring story behind that)

Anyway, will prob give them a 3rd chance and go try the ST6's on.

I highly recomend the sher wood 5030s. Super light, verrry low pro, great protection. My only complaint is that they're not very breathable. They're perfect for non check hockey.

Thx guys. If the Easton ST6's dont fit well, I'll likely order the Sherwoods. Thanks again :)

I do have to take issue with the "great protection" comment. I wear them, and have for years, but they provide virtually no protection. They're light, comfortable and you never really feel them on the ice, but any of the low level pads with plastic inserts are going to offer significantly more protection than the 5030. Often at the same price, or lower.

This is why I chose the Reebok 4k Kinetic fits. I researched and tried on just about every shoulder pad and I felt that these offered the best balance. Very lightweight and offer great mobility but yet have enough protection in the areas where you need it the most (ie. shoulder, clavicle, sternum, spine). I do, however, think that they are a bit overpriced, but a lot of that most likely has to do with paying for the name.
