Warrior Projekt - shin pads

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any input in regards to the new Projekt line compared to the Hustler - specifically shin guards.

i was thinking about purchasing a pair of warrior hustler shin pads until i realized there are Projekt pads coming out shortly (any date BTW?)

So my question is should i hold out still? and will the Hustler prices drop or remain the same once the Projekt gear comes out?

thx

sorry double post occurred when i was timed out...

Well, the Hustler shin pads are over-priced for what you get IMO. They aren't anything special. I'de say hold out until the Projekts come out to compare for yourself. Most new stuff is coming out around May.

I haven't seen the Projekts in person but I love my Hustlers and do not find them to be over-priced at all. Fit is great as well as protection, strapping system is great and very comfy, in my mind an improved One90, which I was using before hand. I would expect the same from the Projekts.

I love my Hustler shins. Comfortable & good protection. I only paid $89 at my LHS. I had some One90's that were the same price and they hurt my knee whenever I fell. I think my LHS just got the new Warrior stuff the other day.

I've seen the new hustler/projekt. Projekts are worth the extra 5 bucks or whatever it will be for them compared to 2010 hustlers.

2009 hustler shin guards should come down in price once the new stuff is in stock.

Do you know if the fit is the same on the 2010 Hustlers and Projekts as the 2009 Hustlers? I've tried on the 2009 Hustlers and they felt comfortable so I'm hoping the 2010 lineup is the same fitwise with some upgrades (I know the Projekts will be lighter with the zote foam and less plastic based on what I've seen in the catalogue and on the youtube videos).

same fit. possibly slightly tighter on elbows, but that may have been because my biceps got bigger. Even if you're on the edge between two sizes, I don't think you'll need to switch to one up or one down.

Were the Projekt elbows much shorter than the Hustlers? Either the Hustlers are really long or I have short forearms because my elbows basically plug into the cuff of my XXXX Pros. If they are I'll sell off the Hustlers and pick up a pair for sure.

I have the Hustler elbows and the Vapor XXXX shoulder pads also. The Hustler elbows are designed big at the top to allow you to insert the sleeves of your shoulder pads in them. At least that's what the IWH review says:

IceWarehouse Review Hustler Elbows (fast forward to 2:15)

I love the way they fit. They are totally the most comforable elbows I have ever tried. And the overlapping feature doesn't bother me at all. The Hustler elbows are awesome, but their shin pads are not so great.

I was talking about my gloves, I don't usually wear shoulders.

For those of you interested in the Projekt shin pad, I started using a pair last week:

  • they feel extremely light and comfortable (they're about the same weight as my One90 shins, but I think they feel lighter on me because they fit better)
  • the fit is great with way less gaps in protection than my old shorter pads (moved from 15" in the One90s to 16" in the Projekts...it's why I made the switch. The gap between the top of the skate and 15" shins was larger than I'd like so I picked up 16" pads before taking a shot or slash there) without restricting movement.
  • they didn't move around on me while playing, but I used quite a bit of shin pad tape to ensure they didn't. I do think the grip print liner in the Bauer pads helps keep them in place and if that's something Warrior could add to future pads that'd make a great pad even better.
  • It'd be great if the liners were removable as that would help decrease the drying time and allow me to throw the liners in the wash. The positive side of them being attached is I won't lose them and there will be less wear and tear on them since I won't be washing them all the time. I'll still air them out, use the drying bag I have, and occassionally clean them with the steamer.

I haven't taken any big falls or blocked any shots yet since I only used them for one beer league game, but they look and feel protective. Overall I'm very happy with them so far. I'll be using them for the second time tomorrow night.

I have had them for just under a month now. I have taken a few shots off the leg already and they seem to protect pretty well. They fit good and like the other guy said the protection around the ankle seems to be pretty good. The only downside so far seems to be durability. There are few spots that look like they are beginning to fray already and not like it matters but the logos are already starting to fade.

All in all its a pretty good shin pad though.
