Bauer Helmet Fit

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a new lid. I've been wearing the NBH 4500 for the last two years now and I'm thinking about switching it up to the 5100, but I am unsure of the sizing and fit. Over the past 5-10 years I have used the 4500 or some variant (4000) always in a Med., I have used two 5000s in Large, and I have tried a CCM Vector 08 in a Med. and it was just too big/didn't fit 'right'. I do not know my hat size, but in inches my dome measures right about 23-23.5". Anyone with experiences on any of these helmets please feel free to share any insight and or advice, thanks in advance!

the fit of the 5100 is the same as the 5000. So if that was an L, you'd be a L in the 5100. I'd recommend getting the 4500 as it just seems that's what your used to.

the more i think about it, i am more than likely going to get a new 4500. the only reason i am toying with the idea of a 5100 is purely aesthetic, i was just wondering if it's a bulky fit/look or more stream lined like a 4500

its bulkier than the 4500 but less than the 9900 and about the same as the 7500. if your looking for light, low-profiled helmet, im going to have to recommend the 4500.

I have both 4500/5100 in Medium..you should be just fine with a M 5100.

The 51 feels to fit a little deeper than the 45..but they both are very comfortable.

The 5100 felt wider than the 4500 to me. Also the 5500 felt more narrow than either of those.

I didn't like how the 5100 felt, to be honest, the foam felt hard... but I'm sure it softens up a bit.

The foam kind of sculpts to your head shape making it comfy, but it does not really soften. After wearing mine after a while it became very comfy.

I just currently picked up a 5100 in medium with the same dimensions ans you quoted (23.5). It is the perfect fit for me with room to be opened and closed. I just could not get the 5500 to fit right between a large and a medium. I have also found the triple layer foam in the 5100 to be more comfortable than the EPP variant in the 5500. I would say a medium in 5100 will do you fine, and its a great helmet in the sub $100 price point.

The 5100 is a wider fit than the 4500. I just switched over to a Bauer helmet from an Easton S-9 because I found the Easton is just too narrow a fit for my fat head. I looked at both the 5100 and the 5500. The fit was almost identical in width but I opted for the 5500 because in my opinion the EPP is more protective and I loved the feel of the gel pads in the 5500. This is one of the best helmets for me personally when it comes to fit.
