Weighted hockey stick

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I only came across the idea/concept of a weighted hockey stick today!

I was browsing through some Youtube videos and came across this:

For those who know about this concept/or have done it personally, have you noticed any improvement or positive results from this exercise? And have you continued doing it?

I'm thinking about making one as well, like in the video. Probably starting off with a 5lbs. weight.

Thx for any input!

Stickhandling with mess up your feel of the puck when you stickhandle without weight.

Just shoot heavy pucks for your shot, or work on shoulder and forearm strength if you want to be stronger on your stick.

Yeah, this works well. I do it all the time. Also what works is taping pucks or any heavy stuff to the blade of your stick, and just making stickhandling motions. And also if you wanna try, fill your stick with water or sand.

I have a one95 filled with water that use to stickhandle with when working out. I also imitate snap shots with it. Find it really has helped my stickhandling and shot.

Well I wouldn't be taking any slapshots with it (but that's also because you wouldn't want to damage your wrists). Other than that it may increase your chance of breaking slightly if you have a pretty quick release, no different to what you see in the NHL.

I found when I starting practicing with a wood stick it just screwed me up when I used the one peice in games. However, I have found using a training puck that is heavier than a game puck improved my stick handling quite a bit.
