He was getting them from one manufacturer but then the team stopped accepting them. Then I believe he was getting them third-party, then switched brands.

That's where a lot of his "pro stock" Synergys that were retail Modanos came from.

What role did the retail Modano Synergys play to him? I've seen some sold before as his pro-stocks and always thought, "Those are retail patterns, DEFINITELY not Kovalchuk's!"

I'm sure those were his "late third period" sticks so no one could call him on his curve. Well that or they were the "hey, look at my pattern" to get people off his back about his curve. I just always found it odd they were his pro stocks, both from the curve and how his name just covered up the "Modano" retail name plate.
