Curving a hockey blade.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to curve a wooden hockey blade? Preferably without having to use a blow torch or a heat gun. The closest thing, I have to that at my house is a blow dryer and I don't want to have to go to a shop to borrow a heat gun. I've heard that you can try heating it with a blow dryer. Also you can like make the blade damp and then try to curve it? Suggestions? And Durability of the blade won't really be a problem, It's a street hockey stick.

i used to do it a lot with a blow torch. Then i got lazy and just stuck to retail blades.

As the above poster said, you can try it with the stove.

There is also the Pro Curver, a vice that is used with low heat. Runs about $50.

Or just stick it under a door for free.

But you need heat to mold it.

If you don't apply heat, you're asking for trouble.

But yeah, just use your stove if you don't have a blow torch/heat gun.

Well thanks for the input you guys. Oddly enough, my solution was a lot weirder. I filled a bucket with hot(really hot) water, left it for 2 minutes then curved it. I read that kids tried that to curve their sticks a long time ago..somehow it worked. My curve went from a Kane to a Staal curve with a little more toe and a more open blade.

Ovechkin uses a heat gun, then curves it under a door to get his wicked curve. I wonder how many 300$ one pieces he breaks doing this?

I used to use the stove top to curve the old wooden ones, it always worked fine.

Probably none considering the Caps aren't paying $300 Canadian or US for his sticks.

Not 300$ persay, but I was under the impression the team does pay for the sticks. They don't get them for free. Ovechkin gets paid to endorse the sticks, but he doesn't get free ones. Someone correct me if I am wrong?

Pretty sure no one's worried about him breaking sticks as long as he's ringing up 50 gs a year.

I was talking with one of their minority owners a few months back and he was marveling at the cost. Not worried. Just marveling.

Anyway back on topic. Heat gun or Blowtorch/stove works. Make sure you use the heat and not the flame.
