CCM U+ pro vs. U+ 09 skate

Recommended Posts

I'm checking these two skates out at hockey giant and hockey monkey.

I see a tremendous difference in price for these two skates, with no skate in between. How much better is the pro? I see that if you buy pro skate you get a 'free' ccm crazy light stick ($200).

I'm surprised there's not another skate by ccm between these two. Like bauer has totalone, one100 one80 etc.

The drop off between the ccm U+ pro and U+ 09 is.....? What am I getting for $550 vs. $280? If i had the money for the pros is it worth it (plus the 'free' stick!)?

If you are talking about the U+Pro Reloaded you get:

-more padding and foams inside the boot especially in the ankle area.

-The quarter package is created with a golfball like material (imagine how much beating golf balls take with constant striking by clubs).

-As with other companies, being the top of the line skate for ccm, it is stiffer than the U+09.

-The outsole for the Reloaded is carbon-composite while the 09 has composite outsoles.

-The Reloaded has a vent under the skate to allow excess moisture and heat escape the boot.

The CCM CL stick is a $200 value if the offer is still valid. Heard great things about the stick but have never used it personally.

I have the U+09 and love mine. They fit like a glove on my foot, and that is no exaggeration. When heating molding I pinched down on the heel area and created a little more tightness also. From what I was told when buying skates is that the 09 is a affordable version of the Reloaded. It is similar, but they have some differences too.

Thanks for the post on the skates. I'm glad you have the U+ 09 because that's the one there is not enough reviews about.

I have narrow ankles and flat feet. Do you think these would work for me?

If you have a narrow heel then don't even bother trying them on. Unless you want to try them on just to be sure that they don't fit.

I totally agree with Hradsky. Narrow heel, don't get them, you might be better off with another make. I've heard lots of guys complain about the wider heels on Reebok and CCM skates causing minor slippage issues even after baking them several times. If your hell bent on that skate I'd recommend the 09 because it's a much better buy and the lightness of the Pro probably won't make a big difference to unless your a very advanced skater. Either that or wait until next spring and get the U+ Reloaded when the new model CCM's come out. It'll be substantially more affordable then. Durability with either skate should not be an issue and the fit will be the same as both use the new U foam for an inside liner.

I have the CCM U+ Pros (2008) and the heel slips quite a bit (probably a product of multiple bakes). They sounds like whoopee cushions on my feet if I'm just walking around because of the heel lifting and the sweat vents on the bottom of the skate. If you lace up your skates tight, the problem should go away. But skates loosen up during games. Just keep in mind that they feel like total crap (pain in the arch, stress in the shins, you name it, I felt it) during the break in period. I started by not tightening up my skates fully, and over time increased the tighten of the laces. Now, these skates are feeling much better. In addition, the skates with the CCM PROformance Perforated steel are lighter than my older Bauer 8090s. I would say that my Bauer 8090 has better heel lock than the CCM U+ Pros. However, this issue may have been addressed with the 2009 models as someone else suggested on another thread. I'm a beer leaguer so no durability issues yet.

Might want to check on that free stick. CCM WAS doing a promotion with the Reloadeds, but the deadline passed (doesn't mean a site can't give a stick away for free with the skates, but I don't see that happening right now).

The fit on these two skates is going to be different out of the box, with the Reloadeds relying more on the baking process and punching to get a good fit (as mentioned, there is more U Foam in the Reloadeds - the fit will be downright cramped compared to the 09's out of the box). I'm a goalie primarily but have a pair of 09's that I use to skate out with once a week and during coaching sessions - they are a solid skate for the money. "Value" is subjective, but I'm more impressed with the 09's at $280 than I am with the Reloaded's at almost twice that. *shrug*

The biggest difference in the skate is the quarter package. The one on the U+ is the i dunno what it's called but some kind of material that resembles the hard outside of a golf ball. Then the U+09 is like this metal kinda thing...I forget what it's called to. That and the tongue on the Reloaded is a bit longer.

Surlyn on the reloaded. Major difference for durability.
