Any reviews on RBK 11k Skates?

Recommended Posts

These have been out for a little while, and I was wondering what those who have purchased them thought. I've read all the specs, but would like to hear some comments from actual users.

Thanks.

Was looking for the same thing. Haven't seen a review of them yet. Not sure why, they seem like their pretty nice and their features sound good. I've see a bunch more of NHL'ers wearing the 11k's than I've seen wear the 9k's...

Just got mine yesterday. Will be mounting them for inline shortly and adding an extra long tongue. Will probably be at least a week before I get to use them but will post a review asap.

a friend of mine got them and the one problem he had was with the durability. He had to send the skates back to Reebok because the tendon guard was falling apart after only 5 times on the ice. Reebok was great with replacing them though, so he sent them in and is getting a brand new pair. He loves the skates though, and only has good things to say other than that one problem.

Thanks for the replys, and I look forward to some follow ups as well. I am a little surprised though that there aren't more people with some additional ice time logged, than what we've gotten so far. Maybe they haven't sold very well.

Took me forever to find them. The monkey just got them on Thursday and my local store yesterday, but cause I was waiting for white.

I have all 3 versions of the RBK skate both 9k's and now these 11k's. I really like the 11k as the have addressed all the concerens with the previous versions. I though the last year 9k was garbage i went through 2 pairs in 6months from the tendon guard ripping, the mesh on teh side of the boot coming off and the liner. The new 11k's are stiffer with a better outsole and teh liner is way better and teh new tongue is really good. I hated that form fit tongue in the 9k. I think you will be happy with them, the quality and the materials used on teh skate are top notch and there is no heel slippage for me.

Thanks that was very helpful. I was hoping for comments on the tongue, as that was a real weakpoint in the 9k's IMO.

That's interesting about the tendon guard. Did they feel solid when he first got them? I seem to remember the 9k's had problems with tendon guards being too soft. Can anyone compare the 9k's tendon guard to the 11k's?

I have now played two seasons in a pair of 9k's and the tendon guards are both completely broken. This has become one of my priorities as I am shopping around for a new pair of skates. Here are the last few pairs of skates I have used and how the tendon guards fared:

Mission ? (before the Fuel line came out): both broken, one ripped

RBK 5K: fine, but only used for a season (I realized they were half a size too big)

Easton 1200: fine, but only used for 1 1/2 seasons (the exterior of the boot was too damaged)

RBK 9K: both broken

I am looking to buy a pair of Bauer One70's or One80's, but they do not seem very solid in that area. I have noticed that the higher Graf models have solid tendon guards, but they are a bit too expensive for me. I am now thinking that I should buy cheaper skates and change them every season or so. I am tired of buying a $400 pair of skates every year. Any ideas?

He said they were a great skate and he did not feel anything wrong with the tendon at first. He had the 9K's before and had this same problem with them too, but when he had X:60's he had no problem. But he liked the Reeboks more so will be using them.

It appears that the tendon issues with their former skates are continuing with this model. but that is only one example.

Noticed Crosby was back on the 9k's for the past few games. Not that that means a lot since his skates are obviously not retail, but you'd think Reebok would want their marquee player in the 11k's.

eta: actually I am having trouble finding photos of him in 11k's. I thought I remember seeing him wearing them, but maybe he never did...

If you look at Crosby's 9k's closely you can tell the liner is different and possibly the tendon guard is more re-enforced. The new 11k tendon guard is a solid piece where the previous model 9k was not a solid piece and it only went done a quarter of the way. I have had all 3 versions of teh pump skate and i would take the 07 version over the 09 version any day but the new 11k has addressed all my concerns and i have used them about 15 times now and i still find them very comfortable and hardly any marks on them because of the srylun outer material.

Actually, this was brought up on the RBK facebook page. Apparently, he doesn't like switching skates in the middle of a season. That seems believable to me. There's lot's of pros who don't like to change their skates once their a good bit into the season.

And I have the 11k skates, I've been using them for 3 weeks now. So I love them. My favorite part is the tongue and the fit. The tongue is great, it starts to kind of form to how you tie your skates, like you can see the impressions on them and they will move a bit to form to your foot and stuff. And the lacebite guard is great for blocking shots and well, guarding lb. The fit, I think is great. The heel lock is great. i don't think it does that pinch the heel thing that the Bauer Vapor skates do, rather it wraps around the whole thing. That's been working great for me. But then again, if it's supposed to maybe I just haven't used them enough? Also one of my last favorite things, is the new quarter material. It really molds to your foot well. There were no extra bumps or fit problems. I totally recommend them if you have the money. I know this is a lot of info and it's probably all jumbled up, but I hope it helps.

Is the outer material on the new reebok skates (top end 11k/10k i mean) similar to bauer 95s or U+s

in terms of heat-moldability? Or are they still more "traditional" where only the internals will be molded?

Definitely similar for the heat molding. The fit is very nice and the eyelets roll over to wrap your foot. It makes a nice fit.

I love my 11k's. I just made the switch over my x60's and I just love the overall fit of the skate, definitely a rbk guy that was trying to fit in a vapor skate. I kinda wish I waited for the white version and tried out the new size d/aa just to see how much a difference the heel is.

I plan on trying the 11k's for just that reason. To see how the narrower heel feels in the d/aa. Nice reading about all the reviews so far.

thanks

i wore X60's in size 8d and i'm currently using 11k's in 7.5D/AA heal, and the heal lock are very similar. I do find the 11k's a bit deeper of a boot and a bit more stiff but both were very comfortable after being baked.

So if you put them on when they come out the oven, you can actually kind of shape them with your hands a little, like bauer 95/100/TO?

That would be really nice!

Well, I didn't use my hands to shape them. I just tied them really tight, and now they've just started to wrap. But it is very nice. You should definitely try it.
