Bauer Pro defender shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

Hey guys Im pretty new here so hopefullt this is in the right spot sorry if it isnt, I did a search and couldnt find anything. Im thinking of getting a pair of the bauer pro defender shoulder pads and was wondering what you guys thought of them as you guys seem pretty knowledgeable about this kind of stuff. Im looking for great mobility primarily, I dont need a whole lot of protection cause where I play its not that physical. my number one choice would still be Bauer vapor 6's if i could find them (wink :P) but whats the word on the pro defenders?

If you're going to be playing in non-contact and need the bare minimum, that's a great pick up. Shots will still hurt if you take them in the chest though.

I can't comment on the bauer pro defender's, but what about the sherwood traditional 5030's? half the price of the pro defenders, and bare minimum with great mobility...I have a few friends who use them and love them for playing where they are required.

just something to look into

Pro defender is marketed as having 'pro protection' (which actually appears to be true at least for the shoulders/colarbone areas), while 5030 offers pretty much no protection at all.

I think 5030 is almost as good as wearing no pads at all - feels great until something happens

Pro defender should be beefed enough to provide just that little extra edge in these situaiton.

not a new topic BTW - search brings quite a few related topics.

If you take a puck in the chest or colide into something with your shoulder with 5030s on you'll be glad you had them on. Obviously they aren't amazing but there is a big difference compared to nothing at all.

Hey all I just got a pair of the Bauer Pro defender shoulder pads, and I though they would be pretty slim, but the shoulder caps on these guys are HUGE! at least in my opinion. Is this normal or am I just wierd, cause when i tried them on with my jersey my jersey stretches quite a bit, and i dont find it comfortable under a jersey, am i doing something wrong?

Did you use classic or anatomical cups?

Ok so I've decided to sell or get rid of my Bauer pro defenders cause i dont really like them at all, I was expecting them to be small low profile and mobile, but there bigger and less mobile and less comfortable than my reebok 6k's. So I have another question for you guys, I'm looking at getting either the Bauer supreme classics (though I cant find too many of these anymore), the easton st4's, or the sher-wood 5030's. So my question to you guys is between those pads, which have the best range of motion, and have the smallest shoulder caps cause i dont really want to look like robocop out on the ice haha

do you have wide shoulders?

if so, try to loosen up the laces so the pads get a bit wider.. It sounds like the pads sit ontop of your shoulders..

I didn't like ProDefenders in the past but couldn't resist at the current price to try them again

i"m 5'11", 205 with 44 chest & ended up getting medium! :))

You're not gona get better mobility/protection out of anything if you already have Jofa based pads.
