iceNsteel 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 I lived in Tacoma a few years ago and used to play drop-in with a lot of the kids from the Tomahawks. They weren't terrible, but getting to know them, most of them were well aware that they were there to age out of juniors and either go on to college club hockey or call it a day on competitive hockey. Warriorsdman 1 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 As far as setting yourself up for a future in hockey as a 16/17/18 year old:Midget AAA: Do it.NORPAC: Don't do it.NAHL: Do it.USHL: Do it.BCHL: Do it.AJHL: Do it.Spot on. I am going into my first year of u18 AAA next year on a very tough team to make. The options I am trying to keep open are all in one camp in a few weeks: A PIJHL team (Squamish) that tends to move guys back and forth with a BCHL team (Coquitlam), and then an NAHL team (Coulee region). NAHL really isa pretty good level of hockey, a good place to go for a year of development if you aren't quite at the size and strength standards for the USHL. Krev 86 Report post Posted June 15, 2010 The NAHL also moves quite a lot of players on to College.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 What are the rules for playing u16 and u18 midget in the u.s, as far as age goes
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 U16 is open to all players under the age of 16.U18 is open to all players under the age of 18.For example, I played U16 as a 15 and 16 year old. U18 as a 17 year old. I didn't play my second year of U18AAA due to financial reasons.
Slapshot9123 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 U18 this year will be 92 and 93 birth year players.U16 will be 94 and 95.
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 If you meant rules as far as Canadian players playing for USA Hockey... I have no idea what the rules for that are.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 I was just wondering because im a 94 and i can only play major midget (u18) next year minor midget (u16) up here only consists of one birth year
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 16, 2010 You're a 94? Jeeze, you're as old as my brother. That's freaky. Stay in Canada and develop. It's not worth coming down here and getting your face beat in by the older kids in Junior hockey.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Haha yeah i still have lots of time to develop, and i do'nt think the physicality would be an issue, i play a very very aggresive game
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Unless you are some sort of magical beast, the older kids will be bigger, stronger, and all around just better. You might play an agressive game, but you will not be as strong as most of the older players.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 I have been playing with jr.a/whl players all off season and have competed well. I am not saying i am physically as strong as the older players (however i am pretty big for my age). I am all about the forcheck and grinding, i would rather forcheck than score any day it's just my style of game. I can take on much bigger players just because of my speed
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Based on that, you should stick with your team and dominate. Stand out players get noticed, and that style of play will get noticed more when you're dominating, rather then fitting in with the Junior players.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 I wouldn't say i'm going to dominate, this AAA league is one of the top two in Canada and one of the best in North America probably. Almost half the players could be playing juniors elsewhere if given the chance.

Almost half the players could be playing juniors elsewhere if given the chance. If the league is as good as you say it is, stay there. It will help your development way more than Juniors. I am fully aware of the AAA leagues up in Canada. My old team had a bitch of a time winning Medicine Hat a few years ago. Notre Dame especially was probably one of my favorite games to play in ever. Most players stay in AAA hockey until they're 17. Then they make the jump to Juniors if they're blue chip players. If not then, they make the jump at 18, get 2 years of Junior in, sign with a college, and they're off at 20 or 21, depending on when their birthyear is. The trend back before the 90's was the majority of players would be playing Juniors at 15. That is no longer the trend. They stay in AAA hockey to further their development and speed before making the jump. That is what I and several others have recommended to you. I've played in NORPAC, take it from me, it's not worth it.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 It's the amhl, did you play against the medicine hat AAA team?
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Maybe? It was the Medicine Hat tourney. I don't remember who we beat to get to the semis, but that's where we beat Notre Dame. We played Lethbridge in the final. First American team to win that tournament in its history.
royals19 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Were you playing midget AAA at the time? I'm fairly certain notre dame has a AAA team and a team they call AAA but is really AA level, but that may just be for bantam.
Krev 86 Report post Posted June 17, 2010 It was a Bantam Major AAA tournament. Birthyear 1990 at the time.
